Hey good luck.  Keep us posted, please?

I'm considering same Dr.,  Dr. Alvarez.
My personal concern isnt as much the doctor,
but the SAFETY of Mexico.

Best wishes

I had the sleeve with Dr. Aceves,   so I cannot offer much information on  your surgeon but wanted to comment on the safety concerns.

As in the US there are safe and not so safe cities in mexico too. it seems everytime I watch the news I see a horror story in mexico.   Look at the cites that are mentioned, basically 2 or 3 places in Mexico ar ein trouble, not the entire country,  not all cities are the same.

I had surgery in Mexicali with Dr. Aceves and it was a very safe city. I returned for a 1 year check up  recently and the city is still the same. Nothing has changed, I called ahead of time and was reassured by the office staff and they were absolutely right. Do not let the sensationalism in the news  get to you. Just do your research on the location as well as the doctor.

BTW  Dr. Aceves rocks!   great surgeon, great person!

If I am correct Dr Alavarez is in Piedras Negras (spelling may be wrong) which is not one of the typically unsafe cities.
That having been said I did have my surgery in one of the"dangerous" cities, Tijuana. I am not saying there is not lots of unrest and crime due to Cartel stuff, I am not saying there aren't less dangerous cities, I am saying that let's keep things in perspective.
Going to MX for surgery is not like going down there shopping or drinking or partying.
You are driven from the airport to the hotel/hospital and back again. You are escorted from place to place by the staff and and not out there wandering the streets.
I had my surgery in Tijuana in June 08 and at no point did I feel unsafe or at risk.
There are many excellent surgeons and programs throughout Mexico and while there is danger it is important, like the other poster said, not to get caught in the the drama and sensationalism.
Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?
