Extra "Insurance"

Has anyone taken the "Extra Insurance" when they went to Mexico?

I am arranging for a VSG with Dr Alvarez the first of April, and want to make sure I have all my $$$ in line.

What is "Extra Insurance" for?   I went to Mexico in January and did not purchase this.  Is this for the airline? 

A few dr's have "extra insurance", in case of complications while in mexico hospitals.

I am waiting to find out of Dr Alvarez has it, or if any one has ever had to use it.

Airline...no as that is covered seperately, as I buy  my own ticket.

Heard from Susan from Dr Alvarez's office.

He is one of the surgeons that does not offer the "extra insurance"

I know that Dr Joya in Puerto vallarta has complication insurance. It is $500. I dont think many doctors do this.. It is even new for Dr Joya. It sounds liek a great concept and Im thinking about doing it also... It might be worth it or it might be a waste of $500 bucks but better to pay the $500 then to have complications and pay thousands.

I had surgery last Friday with Dr. Joya and I purchased the "complication fund" for $500.  I did not have any complication nor did I end up needing the fund but the "what if " factor made it well worth $500.  Good luck with your decision. 

The $500.00 is to cover any complications with Dr. Joya - it's sort of a gamble, pay $500.00 upfront and it would cover any complications that come up during the surgery, these complications can be costly - some have had to pay $1,000 - $1,500 more.  So, it's a little piece of mind.
