Tomorrow is the day
Hi Kelly... wow, Alaska... and I thought I was a long way from Puerto Vallarta. lol
I had surgery Oct 1st. I remember being wheeled into the operating room sometime around 4pm and I was in my room and answering the phone at 9:30pm. So... I think the surgery is about 2 hrs long. That would have given me 3 hrs in recovery.
Good luck. You will be totally thrilled with Dr. Joya and Dr. Leal and Natalie. They are all so nice. The nurses are awesome as well.

Kelly, read my profile. It may help you a lil bit. As for recovery.... I FEEL INCREDIBLE. Life is amazing.
I will admit, that I have struggled occassionally with eating too fast or too much but the yucky feeling usually goes away in about 15 min. so it's all ok. Packing my lunch for work has never been easier lol. protein, protein, protein.
I am just starting to experiement with real food. I am not liking any protein shakes or bars so I am really concentrating on getting my protein with the food I eat. It's not really that hard. If you use www.thedailyplate.com it is a great help when it comes to tracking what you eat.
My tastes have changed. I can't tolerate anything sweet, even artifically sweetened. But I think in the long run, that is a good thing. I just sent an email to another lady name Brooke. She leaves on Tuesday so you will prolly meet her there. There were 5 of us in the hospital together. We all left one day after another so when we were all back at the hotel we enjoyed breakfast out in the sunshine together.
the nurses are wonderful at Cornerstones. There was not alot of English going on but lots of smiles and giggles. It is amazing how one word can get your point across. You will love Natalie. She is an absolute Gem! Dr. Joya is so gentle and has a great bedside manner. Dr. Leal is the one who came to the hotel every day to check on us. He is amazing.
All I can say is... follow his rules. I've had no problems but I haven't broken the rules at all either.
Good luck tomorrow. I wish I was there, I'd love another week at the pool side.

Just breathe and relax and enjoy the experience. I looked at it more as a holiday than surgery. Sure the surgery took a day and I wasn't overly energetic the next day, but each day you get better and better. The sunshine is incredible. It is so warm. I was eager to get out of the hospital and into the hotel. I just wanted to "vacation" to continue. No phones bothering me, no kids, no alarms... I met wonderful people. Emilie and I will be friends forever. She had surgery one day after me. She was also alone so we kinda stuck together. We were both sprung from the hospital a day early. Just walk... sip.... walk some more but go slow.. Don't over do it. Emilie and I went to the open market one day and were both exhausted when we got back. Afternoon naps in Mexico are so much fun :) You will find that you will use people for the smell of their food. lol. We are going back next year just to really enjoy the vacation more and eat the yummy food. Btw, the broth at the hotel is really good. If you want to take it up a knotch, put in a spoon of the fresh salsa and sip around it... adds some zing to the broth. lol
