So, I am going into my doctor this month, and sort of want to know how to help guide my doctor in what sort of tests I should ask for her to run.  I am her first weight loss surgery patient - so anything I can do to help would be great.

You doc will probably know what you need in terms of blood work - basically, a complete blood count (anemia screen), a basic metabolic panel (possible electrolyte imbalance), calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, then possibly iron studies (panel of 3-4 things), then depending on how far out you are B12 and TSH (thyroid). The most common issues for GB patients are iron deficiency anemia, calcium deficiency, and B12 deficiency though this can take a long time to manifest.

If you had high cholesterol before she might consider checking a lipid panel as well.

Thats about it - though like I said, most of this is common sense (at least to docs) stuff to check and Im sure she will know what is appropriate.

Good luck :)
