I too was self pay though I had the vertical sleeve procedure which was a better option for me. No malabsorbtion problems like with by pass and for the most part comprable weight loss.
Mine was $8600 with Dr Contreras in Tijuana. That covered everything except my airfare to San Diego and airfare for the person that went with me.
I did not want to go to Puerto Vallarta and preferred staying closer to the border.
There are excellent MD's that advertise on this board so you tend to see more folks that have had surgeries by them. Remember there are also excellent, qualified, highly experienced and highly trained MD's that do not advertise on this board. I would encourage you to do some research on and off OH website. You have to be comfortable with the surgeon and program that you choose.
As far as financing goes I was able to take out an equity line of credit on my house which is how I paid for mine. I don't know what your finanacial situation. I know some folks have gotten financing through Capital One or other similar programs. You may want to look into a program like Lending Tree where several lenders kind of bid for your business.
Another thing I liked about the sleeve was short recovery time. I was only out of work for 10 days but could have gone back sooner. I was just enjoying my time off.
I hope this info helps.

Do you have a website for Dr.Contreras or a phone number?

Costs really vary from Dr to Dr and how far you are traveling. You'll have to contact the individual Dr's and do some price comparisions. Remember of course cheaper is not always better. Be sure to look at the Dr. reviews and speak to former patients as you research.

Hi and Welcome!
So sorry to hear about your insurance denial. Boy have I been there! After 2 years of fighting with them, WITH attorneys, and many denials, I finally self paid and went to Dr. Joya.
If you go to his website, drjoya.com, there are some choices to use for financing. It was really easy and rather quick!
My best bud is down there right now having lap RNY with Dr. Joya. Keep her in your thoughts please!
Let me know if you have any other questions. Dr. Joya is a great choice. You couldn't be in better hands!
