Hi Everyone,  I had been planning on getting my surgery done with Dr. Lopez Corvola through surgicalbariatric.com, but now I am way scared.  Anyone know more about this doctor.  He seems to be very experienced with the lap band and he is supposed to be a renowned bariatric surgeon. I think he has only done 100 sleeves and I am not sure on the RNY or DS.   Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, msak

Well he is clearly a Lap Band specialist, so I think if that is what you are after then you are Okay. Howver there are serious differences between inserting Lap bands and doing RNY or the Sleeve. Althought they are all parts of weight loss surgery the procedures are vastly different and the skill set for them is different.  "Renowned" in what? If he has only done 100 sleeves then, no, he would not be renowed in that, ditto with the RNY or Sleeve.  100 of anything does not make one "renowned." But if it is lap band you want, and it is a less complicated procedure then I think you should be okay.

There were some posts on the board lately about this surgeon and some tragic consequences when a patient apparently had some severe complications. The post I read indicated the patient had died but just know that from the post. While this is really scary info the reality is that any MD can have a bad outcome which may or my not be as a result of something the MD did wrong or even how experienced the MD may be. I happened to be in Tijuana having my VSG done and was aware that there was a surgery that had some bad complications. I had my VSG surgery done by Francisco Contreras and I could not have been happier with the outcome. My sugery was this past Friday and I have not taken any pain meds since I got back home on Monday. I am drinking with no problems and have been able to get my protein in. I am still on a liquid diet so can't speak much to how I will do when I get real food but I don't anticipate any problems. My incisions are healing nicely. Please feel free to PM if you have any questions.

Hi, I had my lapband done on 4-1 with Dr Corvala. He and his staff were fantastic and i would do it again in a heartbeat. So far i have lost 40lbs and the gal at the fill clinic that i go to always comments on dr Corvala's work. She has quit a few of his patients that she fills. Are you planning on getting the sleeve? I know he is top notch with the band, but don't know about the sleeve. Good luck and God bless.
