Smiley, Please do lots of  research before you decide on your surgeon.  I decided to go with Dr. Joya because all I heard on the OH forum is what a wonderful doctor he is and how easy it was to go to PV and have RNY and come home and go back to work.  No one talked about having complications with the surgery.  I can't believe I am the only person who had major complications with the surgery. If I had picked another surgeon I could have had the same complications. I'm not saying that wouldn't be the case.  I just want to educate others and let them know it may not be as easy as it sounds. Be prepared for extra cost (In my case thousands of dollars) you might have to pay.   Have a doctor here in the states that can do follow up if you decide on Mexico.  The biggest problem I am having now is getting a primary doctor that has had experience with WLS patients.  My insurance will not pay for any bloodwork related to WLS.  I will have to pay out of my pocket all cost for follow up.  In the long run will I really have saved money if I just went with a US doctor I'm learning that I have to rely on others (fellow OH memebers) to help educate myself what I need to do to make sure that I get all the vitamins I need to take now that I have had surgery. Just be prepared ......anything could happen.  This was my first major surgery...(I'm 40) and my BMI was 40.  I had no major health problems and I wasn't on any medications except high cholestral medication.
