2 days ago I was going through my mail and I came across a letter from Discover card,I thought, that's weird,I don't have a Discover card. I opened it and it was a letter thanking me for my application for a new card. I thought OK this is weird (ding ding ding) So I found an 800# for Discover card and called them, after talking to literally 9 different people and telling them my story I was turned over to the fraud department.Sure enough someone had applied via the Internet on an on line application for a Discover card in my name on Feb 8Th. Whoever did it had my S.S.# and address. But had my occupation wrong and my mother maiden name wrong and get this spelled my last name wrong! but still got a damn card because they used my S.S.#. They informed me I needed to take certain immediate steps by notifying credit agencies etc. I did all that. Then this morning I was thinking about it and it occurred to me (ding ding ding) on Feb 8Th I filled a form out on line for financing of WLS at a Dr's website that is in Mexico !!!!!!!!!!! I called the next day and canceled the loan request. So I called the Dr's office and told them my situation and lady was very rude and actually hung the phone up on me. I called Discover back and gave them the Dr's name and number and told them what had happened and they were going to follow up. Interesting to say the least.
The credit cards companies make so much money that it is easier for them to issue a card, be wrong, chargeoff the account than to protect OUR privacy and rights. They just charge higher interest rates and other fees to offset the difference. I lived in North Carolina during the 90's. I later moved to Florida. One of those "no credit check" obviously came to my NC address in my name. Someone filled it out, receieved the card, charged $1300, and then paid it off. Go Figure! Coolbreeze
