Aftercare for RNY's
I have no health insurance and go to a walk in clinic when I am sick. They are capable of preforming the blood work needed to check my nutrient levels. However, I have been hospitialized twice since the surgery (once for an allergic reaction and once for a migrane). Both times they did blood work (and CT scan) to check out my nutrient levels. If you go to an American ER and tell then you recently have surgery in Mexico, they make sure to check you out thourally, lol. Too bad they don't put as much effort into providing better quality care for American patients. I only say that because the care I recieved in Mexico was far superior to any I have recieved here in the states.
My husband did have blood work done and his potasium was low. He recieved potasium via IV for 2 days and is now on supplements.
I also keep in close contact with my surgeon's nutritionist. This is all the after care I recieve and all the aftercare I feel I need.

I feel teh same way. I feel Dr. Aguirre and his staff were superior to care provided in the States.
Seriously.
I posted once a list of places where one could send bloodwork and obtain information on b-12 levels, and whole lot of other stuff... I lost those links...
If you see any pop up... message board or email me, please.
Thanks.
Check with your primary physician about follow-up care. I think most are intrigued with the whole thought of WLS and would love to follow-up with you! That is what I have done with my doctor, and as mentioned above it is certainly a bit of a learning process for him as well as you. I just keep up on my reading about Gastric Bypass and he has done a lot of research as well. It all works out!
