Topic: Announcing Forum Upgrades!

Its been over six years since we've launched our forums. During this time it has seen thousands of fresh faces, greetings, meetings, partings, arguments, kind words, life transformations, cathartic rants, and simply happy time pass. It has been with us throughout this time, silently observing and facilitating. But like any wise old man, its bones were getting old. Its joints were aching, and it has been needing a new jolt of energy.

A Mobile World
Did you know that over 30% of you visit our website using a mobile device? For those who do visit us via mobile, we owe you a sincere apology, because our forums have been horrendous on a mobile browser. But the big news is that things are about to change! Our new forums are completely mobile friendly and compatible with iPhone, Android, and pretty much any other modern smart phone.

Each post, topic, and forum shows up beautifully, with the full set of features, and in nice large font. See the screenshots for yourself.

You dont have do anything different, just browse to the forums like you normally would. This means that you can finally put these away:

Not Just for Mobile
The interface on your desktop browser has also been cleaned up a great deal. There is now less clutter on the page, and the overall experience is a lot cleaner. Check out some more screenshots here!

You will notice that each post no longer has 400 buttons below it. Only the buttons that are relevant to each post show up, making your screen space a lot less cluttered. Also, when you reply to another person's post, the entire post is indented inside, making it a lot easier to figure out who has replied to whom.

Launching soon! Maybe as early as next week! Maybe.
And do remember that this is not in any way a be-all-end-all when it comes to the forums. We are in the process of constantly learning and improving upon what we have, and this is just one step along the way.

Stay tuned for the changes! We look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

I take Klonepin twice daily along with 2 anti-depressants. I am a year out from VSG and all I can say is that when life sucks and I'm trying to find some blessings to count, my surgery is one of my tip three.

Because of the meds I'm on I am allowed NO alcohol, which is. Probably a good thing.

ASIDE FROM THE MALAPSORPTION FROM CERTAIN MEDS NOT TREATING OUR PROBLEMS PROPERLY SO MANY THINGS SHOULD BE PUT INTO PLACE FOR LONG TERM TREATMENT AFTER BYPASS.

ILL TELL YOU MY STORY.    I WENT FROM ONE OF THOSE GIRLS PEOPLE USE TO SAY MY GOD SHE HAS SUCH A GORGEOUS FACE, YOU KNOW THE GIRL WITH ALL THE BOYS THAT ARE FRIENDS BUT  NO BOYFRIENDS.      WELL LETS JUST SAY THAT AFTER SURGERY I WENT FROM A 2 TO A 10 ON AND APPEARANCE SCALE.   I REMEMBER WALKING INTO A BAR AND HAVING THE BAND STOP TO SAY "O MY LOOK AND THIS BEAUTIFUL CREATURE WALKING THROUGH THE DOOR"   I WAS ABLE TO BE WITH WHOMEVER I WANTED TO WHEN I WANTED TO MEN THAT LOOKED LIKE MODELS MOVIE STARS AND YES WAS A HUGE EGO BUILDER BUT ALSO MAKE ME A LITTLE BITTER.   I DID BECOME PERMISCUOUS BUT LUCKILY NOTHING HAPPENDED TO ME FROM THAT.  THEN STARTED TO DRINK AND PARTY MORE THAN I SHOULD HAVE AND EXPERIMENTING WITH OTHTER THINGS.   ANYWAY WHAT I AM GETTING AT IS ONCE YOU HAVE THE SURGERY YOUR PROBLEMS ARE NOT SOLVED THEY JUST START.  I DO THINK IT IS ABSOLUTLEY NECESSARY TO HAVE SOME KIND OF THERAPY FOR YEARS AFTER YOUR SURGERY AND LOSE WEIGHT.     WHEN WE WERE FAT WE ATE FOR A REASON.   YOU TAKE THE ABILITY TO EAT AWAY AND WE ARE GOING TO FIND ANOTHER VICE OR ADDICTION TO TAKE AWAY THE PAIN THAT MADE US OVERWEIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE.   YOU MAY TURN TO MEN, DRUGS, DRINKING SHOPPING WHO KNOWS.   CONTINUOUS THERAPY IS AS NECESSARY TO YOUR LIFE JUST AS CONTINUOUS FOLLOW UP WITH MEDICAL DOCTOR.

DOES ANYONE AGREE OR HAVE A STORY TO TELL?

I know...it's frustrating.   And if the PDR or official prescribing guidelines for a product set a limit...it takes a knowledgable doctor to go against the grain.   I often talk to my doctors about prescribing patches or liquid versions.       If I have dental work or something, I tell them the tablets make me nauseous (which is actually true) and ask for liquid pain meds which is what I was given after my surgery.    I don't know if that is true for you, buy my surgeon prescribed liquid Roxicet.

Why does that change after 12-months?    But what about all the people on, like you mentioned, anti-depressants, mood stabilizers, heart meds, blood pressure meds, etc.     Are they liquid forms of those?    Often not, unless you have a compounding pharmacy and can get it specially made.   And lately so many are time released.    That can't be in a liquid.   I couldn't tolerate the last time-released medication I was prescribed....it made me so sick.

But for me...the most important thing is how much of my multi-vitamin or all the calcium supplements is being absorbed?

With this surgery only growing in popularity, these things need to be understood better than they are now.     It's sad to say, but perhaps with this issue with Congressman Jackson, maybe it will garner some serious attention.

Please stay in touch and let me know if you find out anything new.

I write a blog www.itsnotaddictiontransfer.wordpress.com and I think this issue be my next post.

I totally agree I beleive studies should be done to see exactly how much we actually do absorvb of certain medications we take then have doctors aware of dosage  changes or even different administration of the medications to rny or any other bypass surgery with malapsorption.  What do we do?   Who do we aggrivate with this info?

Thank you for this information.   I had heard some people say that absorption seemed different post-op.    This is a huge deal and I wish there were more studies on this issue.   Not only pain meds and anti-depression meds, but supplements as well.    It seems to just be a guessing game.   Doctors seemed committed to treating gastric bypass patient as no different than their other patients....rarely do they discuss the different prescribing practices that should be employed.

I get IV nutrient therapy a couple of times a month, but it doesn't include iron.   Iron has to be done separately...as you know!   You're right.   What to do?

Thanks for sharing

Hello I had my bypass surgery over 13  years ago and still maintain a safe bmi.   I just want to try to bring awareness that many doctors do not consider when prescribing pain meds and/or depression medicine that the r n y gas patients dont absorb properly.  We absorb about 33 percent of medication.  I will swallow a pill and goes through pouch and directly to lower intestine.   No way is the enough time to properly break down medication and absorb for therepeutic releif of pain or help with depression.   So many of us are not getting proper amount of depression meds therefore someone may take their own life.    I suffer from sever back pain stenosis, ddd, many problem discs and get prescribed pain meds that do not work the way they should so sometime i take more than usual to get the help with the pain  and have to suffer rest of month because i took more worrying that my doctor would think I am just wanting more pills.   Many bypass patients are considered opiate drug attics and get in trouble with the law when there is a reason for all this.  New doctors need to be educated more on the effects of gbs ten plus years down road.  I dont absorb iron suppliments therefore had 3 blood transfusions and 3 seperate iron infusions from a Hem/Oncologist who finally said to me to just stop suppliments because wont absorb enough to be therepeautic. WHAT TO DO?/?
