04/21 REFLECTION FOR THE DAY
Can I be wholeheartedly grateful for today?  If so, I'm opening doors to more and more abundant good.  What if I can't be thankful for the "rain" that has fallen in my life -- for the so-called bad times?  What then?  I can begin by giving thanks for all the sunshine I can remember, and for every blessing that has come my way.  Perhaps then I'll be able to look back over the rainy periods of my life with new vision, seeing them as necessary;  perhaps then, hidden blessings I've overlooked will come to my attention.  AM I GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF LIFE -- BOTH THE SUNSHINE AND RAIN?

TODAY I PRAY
May I be grateful for all that has happened to me, good and bad.  Bad helps to define good.  Sorrow intensifies joy.  Humility brings spirituality.  Disease turns health into a paradise.  Loneliness makes love, both human and Divine, the greatest gift of all.  I thank God for the contrasts which have made me know Him better.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER
I am grateful for the whole of life.

It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters in the end.  ~Ursula K. LeGuin

Thanks, Trish, I actually have some-what of the same list!

the thing is catching myself quickly enough to do one of them before I start binging.

I did start therapy pre-op but it is very costly and no insurance. (pretty much spent all my money on surgery) but I'll go back to it if I feel I'm not making progress by myself.

it's nice to hear from people who have similar issues.

I can't find my DSM-IV to be able to read exactly what the criterion are for bipolar.  You can google it and learn what the criterion are.  Different mental health professionals will disagree on diagnoses for patients.  My psychiatrist says I am bipolar, but my therapist says I am personality disorder NOS with borderline features.  I used to be borderline all the time.

What matters more than the diagnosis is getting the proper treatment from your therapist and a psychiatrist.  If you are bipolar, you will need to have the proper medication, and be seen regularly by a psychiatrist.

Good luck,
trish

I have been in eating disorder treatment twice, and one of the things I learned, that I have yet to practice regularly, is self-soothing.  I have a list of self-soothing skills that I can turn to when I am jammed up and want to binge, or act out, or drink.

1. Deep breathing exercises.
2. Visualization recording
3. Journaling
4. Bubble bath
5. Classical music with candlelight.
6. Physical exercise
7. Phone calls to other women in AA
8. Cleaning my apartment.
9. Reading scriptures.
10. Praying
11. Meditating

Try one or all of these things next time you are tempted to binge.

Also, are you in psychotherapy?  I would highly recommend that you seek it, as it can give you insight into what makes you tick.

Topic: Hypomania= bipolar?

I had what my therapists calls a hypomania episode a few weeks ago, and now she says she thinks i am bipolar.

Most of my adult life I have been in a funk, like a low grade depression.

Can 1 hypomania episode mean bipolar?
