Topic: RE: Addiction/Alcoholism and Physical Pain
Hi Trish - There are antidepressants that Dr.'s use to manage pain even if patients are not depressed. Below is some info you can discuss with your Dr.

Ttricyclic antidepressants used for pain management include medications such as amitriptiline (Elavil®), or cousins of these drugs called imipramine (Tofranil®), nortriptiline and desipramine. Other antidepressants (other than the tricyclic group) may also help with pain from nerve injury but for reasons that are not as well studied. These include venlefaxine (Effexor) and the newly approved duloxetine (Cymbalta.)

Today I am grateful..

That I am alive..

For friends that look to me for help..

That I looked good when my room mate and I went to her awards banquet..

That I finally realized..

For old school good thoughts..

4/30 REFLECTION FOR THE DAY
We're taught in The Program that "faith without works is dead."  How true this is for the addicted person.  For if an addicted person fails to perfect or enlarge his or her spiritual life through work and self-sacrifice for others, s/he can't survive the certain trials and low spots ahead.  If s/he doesn't work, s/he'll surely return to his or her addiction, and if s/he returns to addiction, s/he'll likely die.  Then faith will be dead indeed.  DO I BELIEVE, THROUGH MY FAITH, THAT I CAN BE UNIQUELY USEFUL TO THOSE WHO STILL SUFFER?

TODAY I PRAY
May my faith in my Higher Power and in the influence of The Program be multiplied within me as I pass it along to others who are overcoming similar addictions.  May I be certain that my helping others is not simply repaying my debts, but it is the only way I know to continue my spiritual growth and maintain my own sobriety.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER
The more faith I can give, the more I will have.

It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters in the end.  ~Ursula K. LeGuin

I have never been on any form of prozac.  I was not aware that it came in liquid form either.  I hope it helps with your depression.  Feel free to PM me if you ever need someone to talk to.

Hugs,
Trish

Topic: RE: Meds Not Working?
My medications did not stop working after my surgery, though I have heard of it occurring for some people.  The other reason your depression may be worsening could be that you are now having to deal with life without using food to numb your feelings.  That is what happened to me, and I ended up drinking again because of it.

Are you in regular psychotherapy?  Have you gotten a list of coping skills for when you are struggling with your feelings?  These help me considerably, though I am struggling most recently because of my alcohol relapse.

Hope this makes sense.

Has anyone experienced their meds not working after surgery?  I've been taking Geodon and Topamax for quite a while.  My depression seems to be worsening.  I've left a message for my doctor but she hasn't called me back yet.
