Hey Patricia,
Hang in there girl. Right foot. left foot, BREATHE!!! I'm coming up on 19 years continuous sobriety and it is because of my addictions I became 430lbs and last November had the VSG surgery. I have lost 146lbs in 10 months and although I am thrilled I am also bummed to have my food taken away. Yes a drink and a drug has seemed like a good idea from time to time but if I drink I will, drug and if I drug I will smoke and if I smoke I will have lots of sex and I will begin to allow my addictions to take back pieces of mu soul again.

You see it isn't about what I lose from my life but what I lose from inside. If the fit isn't right it isn't right...move on and get a new sponsor. Preferrably someone who understand that if you take away one thing I will move towards another...food was taken away and the booze came back in...no big surprise to me. Consider getting into therapy with an eating disorder, recovery focused counselor...it is saving me from a relapse and making it easier to work on this next phase of my recovery.

Wishing you all the best.

Peace~ Eileen

Has anyone had these issues and be able to take adavanse and still drink?  I am 5 yrs post op and lost 120 pounds, but  found I could drink a few beers and have a great time which quickly advanced into full blow alcoholism - nonstop drinking for weeks, blackouts, severe withdrawels when I stop.  My Dr prescribed adavance and I thought I had finally found a solution but they do not help at all.  He refused to believe me and will not treat me now.  Any other suggestions for medical treatment?  We are unisured and unable to go through a rehab program...

Thanks Ramon,
I first entered AA 20 years ago.  After 8 years of sobriety, I drank off and on for a few years.  Then, during my divorce, I got sober again in 2001.  After 6 years, I relapsed two years ago.  It has taken me this long to get this much time.

The thing I learned is to work my 12 step program, and take life one day at a time.

Hugs,
Trish

Good morning OH'ers.. IT'S FRIDAY! !

Today I am grateful..

That I know that things are going to be okay..

For the word yes.. It has a nice ring to it..

That I know that the road has bumps we just have to ride them out..

For people that make me smile..

For Chubs and hearing the word "Mon."

SONG OF THE WEEK..

"EVERY ROSE HAS IT'S THORN"  BY POISON

We both lie silently still
In the dead of the night
Although we both lie close together
We feel miles apart inside

Was it something I said or something I did
Did my words not come out right
Though I tried not to hurt you
Though I tried
But I guess thats why they say

Chorus:
Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn

Yeah it does

I listen to our favorite song
Playing on the radio
Hear the dj say loves a game of easy come and
Easy go
But I wonder does he know
Has he ever felt like this
And I know that youd be here right now
If I could have let you know somehow
I guess

Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn

Though its been a while now
I can still feel so much pain
Like a knife that cuts you the wound heals
But the scar, that scar remains

Solo

I know I could have saved a love that night
If Id known what to say
Instead of makin love
We both made our separate ways

But now I hear you found somebody new
And that I never meant that much to you
To hear that tears me up inside
And to see you cuts me like a knife
I guess

Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn

MOVIE QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"WHO WILL CRY FOR THE LITTLE BOY" FROM  ANTWONE FISHER

who will cry for the little boy?
Lost and all alone.
Who will cry for the little boy?
Abandoned without his own?

Who will cry for the little boy?
He cried himself to sleep.
Who will cry for the little boy?
He never had for keeps.

Who will cry for the little boy?
He walked the burning sand
Who will cry for the little boy?
The boy inside the man.

Who will cry for the little boy?
Who knows well hurt and pain
Who will cry for the little boy?
He died again and again.

Who will cry for the little boy?
A good boy he tried to be
Who will cry for the little boy?
Who cries inside of me

Topic: Four Months Sober
Today is my four month anniversary.  I have not had a drink of alcohol, nor abused any drugs, in four months.  It has been hard in the past couple of weeks.  I had words with my sponsor and thought she dropped me, and then I dropped her.  I am concerned because of her lack of response to my last e-mail telling her I would be seeking a new sponsor.  I think she is being petty.

My depression has been off the wall lately.  My psychiatrist has increased two of my meds, and I still feel lousy.  Some of it is seasonal, and some is related to traumas and losses I have experienced in the month of October.

I have to get to bed.  I am wiped out with the flu.  When it rains it pours.

Happy Friday Eve..

Today I am grateful..

That I did not stab someone on the way to work this morning.. It should not take an hour and a half to travel 15 miles..

That I am smart enough to slow down in the rain..

That I am a learning to adjust..

I have reached almost three weeks..

For Cristine.. Who I absolutely could not make it through a day of work without her making me laugh..

Topic: Groups & Activity

The last several months have been fairly busy ones here at OH and we are really excited
about this upcoming release. First, long overdue is the public release of OH Groups. You
will now be able to start and  manage your own public groups. Second, is a major update
to Health Tracker....Activity! We are planning to release these new features on Wednesday evening, October 7, 2009.

OH Groups

Getting to OH Groups is easy. Just click on the Groups tab at the top of any page on ObesityHelp. OH Groups allows you to start and manage your own groups, you can find groups that suit your interests and find support groups in your area.
If you are looking for an OH Group that focuses on a specific topic, you can browse groups by category.

Activity

To get to your Activity Tracker, click “My OH" at the top of any page on ObesityHelp, select “Health Tracker" on the left and then click the “Activity" tab.

Understanding your total daily caloric expenditure requires more than just knowing how many calories you burned on the treadmill. In your Health Tracker settings area you are now able to estimate the caloric expenditure of your resting metabolic rate (RMR) and lifestyle. These estimates are integrated and displayed with the caloric expenditure of the activities you have logged.
Your exercise log allows you to search for and add strength training exercises, cardiovascular exercises and general activities to your daily log. Caloric expenditure is auto calculated for a number of activities already included in our database of exercises. Pie charts display details about caloric expenditure and time for each type of activity.
Sets can be added and subtracted from strength training exercises. Reps and weight used can be entered for each set.
A number of details can be tracked for cardiovascular exercises and general activities. Some of these variables include, time, distance, calories burned, average heart rate, average power, altitude gained and average grade.
If you can’t find the exercise or activity you have participated in, you can also add your own custom exercises.
Other updates include the ability to create list of your favorite exercises, reports have been updated to include a number of activity items, the nutrition search has been enhanced and we have managed to slip in a sweet macronutrient report under the “Reports" tab.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the features in this release, please submit those here.

If your are new to ObesityHelp or have not used ObesityHelp's Health Tracker before, you can learn about the first release here and the second release here.

Enjoy!
