anti depressants
I have used, since having WLS, Zoloft - had to increase the dosage 3 times and I ended up feeleing like a zombie. So, then we tried Effexor and had to increase the dosage a couple of times and felt again like a zombie.
Then - did not have insurance for a period of time - so did not use anything. I am now on Pristiq which is a fairly new anti depressant. I have only been on it for about 2 months - but it seems to be working well.
(My diagnosis is actually depression and PTSD and Pristiq tends to work on both those issues.)

I just started on prozac a few months ago. Seems to help my depression. I am somewhat apathetic about some things, but then, I guess it's doing it's job?! I don't mind getting up and going to work as much, (lots of job stress) and I have no problem exercising and showering again. (I was in a real low place for awhile...too long!) This HAS helped. I'm glad I'm on it except that it obliterates any sex drive you have. I had one a mile wide. :( Price you pay to take care of your mental health.

There is no reason you cannot take anti-depressant post-op. Just be aware that some of them are time-release/delayed-release (e.g., Cymbalta) and that can be a problem (although some poeple take even thsoe with no problems.
