Hi my name is Charlotte AKA Char, I am preop, and hoping to have surgery in november or december of 08. I am wondering how to handle having a non supportive significant other through this surgery. He feels if I just eat more vegatables and exercise more I wouldn't need this surgery? any help is appreciated and needed. thanks!

Hi Char,
I am not sure what to tell you to help you with your guy.  I had totally supportive family and friends, for the most part.

The best thing I can suggest is to tell him you have exhausted all of the other methods of weight loss, and that this is a tool to help you regain control of your eating.  Suggest he check out OH's other parts of the website, and read about the surgery.  Ask him if he is afraid for you to have the surgery.  I have one son who expressed his fear for me by telling me the mortality rate of people who had the surgery.  Take him to a consult with your surgeon to ask questions and learn about the surgery.  Explain that you are tired of being as big as you are, and that the health risks are significant enough to warrant drastic action.

Good Luck,
Trish
