Reaching Out Helps
Tonight I was heading over to take care of sister's doggy, and I remembered that she has those two cans of beer in her fridge. ARGH!!! I have not been to a meeting in four days, due to being sick with my asthma and not able to wake up in the morning and not able to stay up later in the evening after I take care of that mutt. So, I took my cell phone in with me, and made phone calls for a few minutes. I called a friend who I went to grad school with. She recently had a mastectomy, due to a recurrence of cancer, and when I got her on the phone she burst into tears. She is also in program. Right before her surgery, she had to have one of her cats put down. Then, this past weekend, she and her guy friend broke up. She felt like everything was against her, and life was just sucking big time, and she asked what did she do to deserve all of this.
We talked, and I encouraged her to take it one day at a time, and to just focus on the gratitude of having had some good years with her cat, and that the guy she was dating was a decent guy, just not meant to be the one for her. I also reminded her that she is a whole person without this guy in her life, and that someday the right guy will come along when she is ready for him.
After we spoke, I felt a lot better about the beer in the fridge, and I was able to leave my sister's without being tempted.
I am 17 days sober, and taking it one day at a time.
Huggles,
Trish
Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.
