Introducing myself.

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself as I have been off this site for quite some time.  I had my surgery in July 2000 I was 336 lbs.  I didn't drink before my surgery at all, I was just a food addict.  I lost 150 lbs.  By the third year anniversary I became an alcoholic and during my drinking state, I would over eat mindlessly.  I did this for two years until I actually hit a low and got fired from my job.  It was a true wake up call as a college student in the evening working on my Bachelors degree, I allowed alcohol to take away my job, take away my health, in the two years I was drinking I put back on 60-70 lbs.  I did not want to give alcohol entire power over me and allow it to take away my education as well.  So I quit!  I started to attend AA meetings and take it one day at a time. Today I'm 3 years sober and working on losing the weight I put on and as well hopefully get to an even lower weight.  Becuase of my determination and will to bigger than the disease, I finished my double Bachelor's degree and now I"m working on my Master's degree.  I dont struggle with alcohol anymore, its just something I know I can not have, can not do ever.  But food addiction is still very much in my life.  I MINDLESSLY eat and I'm trying to make the behavoir modifications necessary to be successful with what I started back in 2000.

Hi Jennifer, Good for you!!!!! If we can continue to conquer alcohol, i am sure we can conquer food! Just got to this site myself a week or so ago. Been sober for 10 years, overweight for 40....I always ate prior to and during my alcoholism, but since being sober, I know my addiction has switched. Now is the time to do something about it!   So glad I found this site.  Jill

Hi Jennifer!! We have a similar situation. I dont' crave alcohol anymore, but I DID transfer my addiction to lots of other things. I've been sober 22 yrs and counting and life couldn't be better!! GREAT going on the AA meetings!! I'm glad they're working well for you!! Congrats on the double degrees too!! What are you going for in your Masters?? Keep posting!! Marie

I am new to this forum and need help with food addiction. It is how I deal with things and calm myself. The scale is reflecting this. I would appreciate hearing other peoples tools and experiences in conquering food addiction.
