Campral?
Hi there,
I have not taken it, so I am clueless about it. Have you done any online research on it, like WebMD, or Google it?
Good Luck,
Trish
Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

HI, i TOOK THAT WHILE IN TREATMENT AND AM STILL TAKING IT ALMOST 7 MONTHS LATER. I HAVENT DRANK IN THOSE 7 MONTHS. I REALLY DIDNT NOTICE IT WORKING. NOR DO I THINK A PILL ALONE WILL STOP ONE FROM DRINKING. A WILLINGNESS TO QUIT AND TO TAKE CERTAIN STEPS IS MUCH MORE IMPORTANT TO STAYING SOBER. I DONT THINK ONE NOTICES IT WORKING, KINDA LIKE A VITAMIN, YOU DONT REALLY NOTICE IT WORKING YOU JUST HAVE TO HAVE FAITH IT DOES. HOWEVER, I STILL TAKE IT CUZ, EVEN IF IT GIVES ME A FRACTION OF A PERCENT ADVANTAGE TO STAY SOBER, OR EVEN A PYCHOLOGICAL ONE, I WANT THAT ADVANTAGE.. GOOD LUCK
I have took Campral a few years ago and then recently went back on it but I did not notice it working for me. For others it works great. I think if you are more physically addicted rather than emotionally it works best. Its suppose to calm down the neurotransmiters in the brain so that you don't have brutal cravings. It wouldn't hurt to try it. There is also Naltrexone which is used for both Opiate addiction (heroin, vicodan, etc) but also has been shown to work for alcoholics. I have not tried this one and it can cause some liver problems so you have to get checked all the time.
Hope this helps.
I took it for the first 4 months of my sobriety. I didn't notice it working, until I had a full blown panic attack one night about 2 months after I started taking it. It wasn't until the next day once I was feeling somewhat 'me' again that I realized through the entire attack and the ensuing anxiety that I had the rest of that night, I never once even thought about drinking. I, too, feel the Campral is just to assist you in not craving the alcohol, the real work in recovery will come from you. Therapy, meetings, online support, turn to any and every source you have to stay sober. Having the meds to help offset the craving does help, and for me it made me able to focus more on dealing with life without numbing it instead of focusing on the desire for that drink.
Campral did not seem to help me at all, but maybe i was not ready emotionally/spiritually to really commit to sobriety. I am on Antabuse and Naltrexone currently after going into a short term detox and 4 week intensive outpatient counseling last fall. One day at a time I am approaching 4 months of sobriety. I can't tell how much the pills help or whether I was just miserable enough to want something different. But my mindset now is that I couldn't/can't do this alone and anything that helps me not drink is something I want in my life right now. Do whatever you need to do, ask for whatever help you need, sobriety is worth it!
