Food Addict
Hi
I had the lap RnY October 15 this year. So far i have lost 61 pounds from my highest weight of 440. I may have lost more since then, but I dont have a scale.
I feel pretty good about my diet and schedule i have to keep. I follow it strictly. I am 6 weeks post op, and on soft foods. I am very scared about moving on to a regular diet.
I know i am a food addict. I think about all the food i cant have anymore and it's like i lost a best friend. How do I get past this and move on? I want to be healthy and my head is in the wrong space. Evcen though i m sticking to it my head is not there. you know?
Any suggestions?

I do understand what you mean. Food addiction is what brought most of us to this point. Many of us here have found help for this addiction (and others) through 12-step programs such as Al-Anon, CoDa, OH and my personal favorite, Celebrate Recovery. These programs help us address the underlying issues and not just food-related issues. Also, there is a great book out there caalled The Anatomy of a Food Addiction that I highly recommend.

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered 12-step program. You can find out more about it at www.celebraterecovery.com. You can look for the book at Amazon.com, used or new.

Hi
I can understand where you are coming from as a food addict, too. It is understandable to grieve over the loss of eating, but you are going to discover a new way of eating that will still allow you to have the foods you used to within reason. I read a book called Food is Easy;Life is Hard by Linda Spangle, RN, MA, that deals with emotional eating related to any type of food plan. Her 2 bite principle is what has gotten me through the last 7 months and 84 pound loss. Savor the 1st bite and if desired, savor the 2nd bite. Remember the next bites are not going to taste any better and may not taste as good as the first 2. Using the principles in her book dealing with addiction and emotional overeating, I am satisfied with amounts of food I never dreamed I could be and cravings are virtually non-existant for me now. I struggle every day, but this has helped me do it and keep moving. Good luck! Joyce
