I am new to this site and just wanted to share a little about myself since this seems to be a board that I should have joined long time ago but better late then never . I had the lap band done a year ago and was losing a good amount of weight up until march when I found out I was pregnant and could not keep the baby because I have a medical condition that the doctor said could kill me or the baby. I had to terminate the pregnancy because I had to be here for the 14 year old daughter that I have anyway I turned to drinking and alot which allowed me to be able to eat everything I would not have been able to eat before I drank so I used one addiction to abuse another one. I tried to stop drinking and things became worse I had to get my tubes tied in june and they gave me the depo shot I started to gain weight became depressed and started drinking 3 bottles of wine a day. I know this is too much so I started seeing a psychiatrist who has been really good to me. any way I have stopped drinking as much I was only on occassion but now I am without a job and looking so depression is setting in and I slowly am picking the bottles up again my boyfriend gets very angry when I drink and I dont want to turn to it again what do I do/

I think you've come to the right place here.  It sound to me like you've taken the first step -- admitting you have a problem.  Others here will help you put the next foot forward.  I'm thinking you may want to check out a recovery group like AA or Celebrate Recovery as a next step.  But drinking isn't my addiction (at the moment anyway LOL) and I don't want to give you wrong advice.

Welcome to the board. I'm sorry for your medical, pregnancy, weight and work issues. Sometimes life can just really suck.

I've been in AA recovery for awhile. It has helped me deal with lots of those really tough issues. When I came to AA, I didn't know if I was an alcohol or not. It was suggested I go to some meetings and listen. I listened for the similiarities I had with those there, rather than the differences. I decided it was a good place for me to be.

Have you talked to the psychiatrist about your drinking? It might be a good idea. He/she will have suggestions.

You can also check on the Alcoholics Anonymous website. There's a lot of information there that can help you.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'll be glad to help.

Hi and welcome, I am so sorry you are struggling with so many life issues.  I have been through similar stressors and understand how easily it is to pick up on an addiction, be it alcohol, food, sex, or whatever.  I have been in AA recovery for 18 years, and have discovered in the past six years how important group support is to my recovery.  I strongly urge you to attend some AA meetings and learn how others have been able to stop drinking entirely.  I have not had a drink in over 6 years.  During the past six years I went through a divorce, dealt with a son with a heroin addiction, sold the house my kids grew up in, and went through graduate school.  Stress was high, and at times still is.  In AA, I have laerned how to deal with life without alcohol. Feel free to PM me if you would like my phone number.  I am happy to encourage you over the phone. Hugs, Trish
