First Meeting Last Night. . .

Day 3 of sobriety for me.  I went to my first AA meeting last night (open) and I swear that if my boyfriend was not with me as a support person I wouldn't have gone in - I was PETRIFIED.  ABSOLUTELY PETRIFIED.   The warmth and "welcoming" feelings were overwhelming, heartwarming, and encouraging.  I am SO glad I went and will go to another Sunday afternoon.  The only thing I said when I introduced myself was that I had not even made it through Step One yet but I was there and thanked them for letting me listen.  A nice woman with 23 years of sobriety approached us after the meeting and gave lots of support and encouragement.  When we were going out the door several more people yelled my name and said "Welcome!  Please come back"!!!! Just wanted to share in case there is anyone out there that was in my same situation and has not been yet.  Take care and I promise I'll check in periodically.

Congratulations Denise.    I remember my first meeting.  I was scared out of my mind.  I am so thrilled now to attend a meeting and greet the newcomers.  At my meetings, newcomers are told that they are the most important people at the meeting.  Usually, our discussions will focus on making the newcomer feel welcome and encouraging them to attend more meetings.   Congratulations on getting to a meeting, and on Day 3.  One day at a time, you are working it.   Hugs, Trish

Welcome to AA and to the addiction board. AA not only saved my life but it gave me one, too. I'm so glad you have a supported BF and enjoyed your first meeting. I don't think I could have ever had the courage to go in alone to my 1st meeting either. Now I will walk in any AA meeting , anytime, anywhere and know I am welcomed and loved.

And trust me, when people say "Welcome and please come back", they really mean it!

Please keep in touch and let us know if there's anything I can do for you.
