HELP FOR A FOOD ADDICT

Imagine this - I am a post op, steady at 125 pounds for two years, down from 270 almost 3 years ago, and for once it isn't me with a food addiction issue.  My sister, who lost 110 pounds (non-op, WW member forever), has now re-gained about 30 pounds.  She was in full control of her eating and exercise habits for many years and maintained her weight loss, but after our father's passing a year and a half ago, she has turned to food for comfort.  She called me two nights ago, hysterical, and says she is addicted to food, and has become more than obsessive-compulsive about her eating, or lack of control to NOT eat everything and anything available...   She is truly afraid that if she does not get help she will have a full re-gain of her weight.  She recognizes that she has a problem, and wants help.  I am desperate to help her find a doctor in her area that can help with grief issues, as well as the resulting food addiction that has surfaced over the last year and a half.  I realize that most of the posts here are drug and alcohol related, but obviously we have all struggled with food addictions on one level or another...  Does anyone know of a good psychiatrist and/or psychologist in the Austin, TX area that has expertise in food addiction as well as OCD and grief counseling?  I appreciate any  help offered.  She is desperate to find help, and I want her to recover and be the healthy, happy girl I know she truly is.  I pray blessings to you all ~ Belle

Belle, I read the book "The Anatomy of a Food Addiction" and it is a great resource.  I have also been in therapy for 18 years for my eating disorder.  I also have been to Overeaters Anonymous meetings for years, though not recently. I recommend she seek a therapist who uses cognitive behavioral therapy, as that is what has worked with me. Hugs, Trish
