Hello. I am approx. five years post op and have finally realized that I should not drink alcohol. Of those of you who have the faced the same thing...I am curious if the weight falls off once you stop drinking alcohol? I have gained about 20 pounds at least and it is strictly from drinking wine.

May be coincidence, or a mixture of thoughts/streses so on and so forth, but I've dropped 11 pounds since July 24th. (The day I quit drinking) And I don't exercise.

There was an article in Cosmo over the summer about women who drop poundage by not drinking, average weight loss on a 110-130# female was 3-5 pounds in 2 months.

Thank you for replying. It has taken me all these years to realize that there is a direct correlation between wls and alcohol. I know how helpful AA is to people, however, I hope to get support through this forum rather than attending AA. I think I can do it without too much of a problem...now that I have finally recognized that I had a problem.

Hi Shan,

It's been my experience that if you have a drinking problem you can quit with some or no support. If you are an alcoholic, it is extremely difficult to quit by yourself.

I hope you will keep an open mind about going to AA if you have trouble stopping. AA is not just about not drinking, it's about LIFE!

Best wishes to you and please let us know if you have any questions or need help.

Karen

Congratulations on recognizing your problem.  That is the first step toward recovery. I once thought I could handle my drinking problem without AA, and it was not a successful thing.  AA is not just about alcohol.  It is about learning to change my thinking and reactions to life, and developing coping skills to deal with what life throws at us. Good luck in your newfound recovery. Trish
