Hi everyone.  I am a year post-op.  I am doing well --180lbs down.  I have about another 40 to go to hit goal.  I was 396.  I have developed bulimia.  I have tried to get help, but I can't seem to find any help.  That and I jut don't even know if it's something common to gastric by-pass patients.   I'm not evn really sure what to say.  I just wanted to reach out and hope that eventually do the right thing

There are eating disorder treatment facilities throughout the country.  I have done eating disorder treatment twice prior to my surgery.  I did some bulimic purging at times in the past.  Try using the internet to find a treatment facility near you, or contact a nearby psychiatric hospital to see if they have one, or can refer you to one.   I do not know how common it is, but it would make sense that some people who develop it.   Hugs, Trish

Good Morning Lin..  I'm not too familiar with bulimia.. altho just with having the RNY surgery.. I occasionally throw up on  due to pain or something not agreeing with me.  But I did want to welcome you to this board.. and wish you success in getting the support you need. Hugs.. Rhonda

Lin,

You are not alone,--i developed bulimia as a screwed-up way to combat "freshman 15' in college (i weighted 150,  which, at the time was my highest weight ever. i lost 20 lbs, gained back some, lost some, gained all the way to 160, lost to 125, gained to 170, lost to 127, gained to 209, lost to 170, gained to 225, finally had WLS in December of last year, currently 142 (below doctor's goal of 144) and slowly losing to get to 115. I was binging and purging up to 3 times a day for over 10 years. Aside from the obvious health risks, it does  not work  long-term as a weight control method since I ended up yo-yoing myself into "real" obesity. Luckily, i seem to have lost the ability to induce vomiting post RNY so i'm losing weight the healthy way.  As someone who struggled with this disorder, I can only offer my support and tell you that you do not want to jeoparide your extremely successfull weight loss and your health (and you WILL stretch you pouch if you continue to binge and purge) . Get help from an eating disorder specialist in your area ASAP and speak with a psychiatrist (some anti-depressants, Wellbutrin, etc. can also be used to combat bulimia)
