Hi. I am on day 2 ( a very fabulous day 2, I might add) of quitting smoking. I KNOW that this time is it. I have been trying for a year and have had to postpone surgery because of it. This time something has changed. I actually have the commitment. If anyone else would like any advice on quitting or programs or just support I'd be glad to help. I'll cheer you on!! Morgen day 2 of being a nonsmoker

Keep up the good work. I know that once my son quit and he used Nicorette gum. It gave his mouth something to do when he was used to smoking. Unfortunately, when he relapsed with the heroin, he went back to the cigarettes too. I never smoked, so that is the only suggestion I can give you. I do know that my state, PA, has a quit smoking program. Not sure what state you are from, as I didn't look before I started posting. You may want to check with the Dept. of Health or the American Cancer Society website. They may have some programs or suggestions. Hugs, Trish

Congratulations! I know how hard that is. I did it cold turkey both times I quit. (I quit in 96 and stayed off until a year after surgery and picked them back up when I started drinking, and then I quit at the end of july). Here's hoping you get your surgery soon, and are able to stay off the cigs. hugs Michelle

Congrats! My experience has been that once I decided and was really willing and committed I could do it! Working on the willingness again! Laurie

Congrats! It's the worst habit to break... I know, today is day 6 for me and I'm struggling with it bad. It's supposed to get better after the 3rd day as thats when most of the chemicals are out of your system but for some reason today is bad for me. Maybe because I'm super tired... Oh well, hang in there and don't give in. You made it this far and remember you can't smoke just one so don't. I keep reminding myself of that and I know if I pick up one it will be all over for me. Take care.

Hey im trying to quit smoking to. Let me tell you my story i had not been smoking for 7 years until 3 months after my surgery andthe desire hit me tosmoke like a tital wave and i Started again!!?? Its been 4 months now that i've been smoking I so want to quit but its beingvery hard!! Ifeel so stupid for allowing this back in my life I'm starting again to stop tommorow I bought some nictine gum. To help with the withdrawls. I really want to stop but I feel scared. I know that I started again because I cant overeat and the surgery took away my emotional outlet to comfort myself!! I was not prepared for this happening as well as I thought! Any advice would be great!! Lizzey

Hi everyone, I am just surfing thru the various forums around here trying to find my way...I quit smoking almost 3 years ago now and it truly was the easiest thing I have ever done. I read a book and thought if anyone was interested I would post it here. It's only available at Barnes and Noble, Allen Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking, it's helped me and countless others quit smoking easily. There isn't a day that goes by that i'm not thankful for not being a smoker. Anytime I see people smoking I think to myself how glad I am I am not a smoker. Now if you would have told me while I was still smoking that that's what it was going to be like when I quit I would never have believed you but it's been WONDERFUL. Here's a link to the specific book I read, looks like he's come out with some updates... http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780760727324&itm=5
