The Promises
These are the promises that are written in the AA Big Book, the chapter is called "Into Action." When I first read these, I thought they were impossible. Now, I am experiencing them.
"If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves."
Hi Darlene,
When I was in early recovery, I thought the promises were a pipe dream. But, I can tell you, since I have been working on the 12 Steps for the past five years, and going to AA meetings and being in psychotherapy, I have experienced all but one. That one is the financial insecurity one, only because I have huge credit card debts and student loan debts.
How much sobriety do you have? What program are you working to stay sober?
I was taught a long time ago, if nothing changes nothing changes. If I don't change from the inside out, then I won't experience life in a different way.
I do remember feeling as you do.
Hugs,
Trish
