It might be the caffeine or it might be just habit. I downed more than my fair share of cola pre-op but have had absolutely no hankering for it these past 5 years, much to my amazement.
I wouldn't worry about it. You won't be able to drink it with the carbonation anyway. Post-op there are some things you will be amazed that you don't crave or even like anymore...like chocolate with me. !!! Other things you may be nostalgic for, but they just won't be a part of your life anymore. My fave used to be lasagna, a green salad with bleu cheese dressing, a good red wine. I could no more eat that now than a cow! I mean, it sounds good and I don't dump...it's just too heavy.
My surgeon said post-op our brains actually rewire themselves if we let them. That's why I always harp on introducing healthy foods into your diet as you start to eat again instead of eating the old foods and depending on capacity control to last forever. Look at me now! I could very easily eat my way out of this at this stage. Post-op, while losing weight, was my chance. I'm on my own now. Back to basics of eating right and exercising regularly, just like pre-op when I lost (then gained!)
Anyway, don't sweat it. The cigs are the real important thing and I admire you for kicking that nasty habit. Wouldn't it be a drag to lose a couple hundred pounds, have plastics, feel and look good only to die of lung cancer or heart disease!

Good luck Sarah,
It is true post op you will not enjoy the same things. Now that said I waited a long time before I drank soda. Now I crave it. I have a hard time staying away. It does not bother me to drink diet soda but it competes with my water intake really badly. I wish I had never started! If it is a problem pre op my words of wisdom are avoid it post op and you will not know if you can tolerate it. Assume you will not . I kept trying until one day it worked. stupid!
