DH lost job

My DH and me were working for the same school district. He was let go today, as they claim (falsely) that they were not aware that he had a felony conviction from 1986. (YES - 1986 - 20 years ago when he was young and stupid) When he was hired, the accountant that was here then - told him not an issue. HR told him - had letter from attorney approving him for hire w/ the felony. I have all ready made some networking contacts and am pretty confident he can find another job in just a few weeks. But - for the first time in 9 days - a big shot of vodka sure does sound good. Made an appointment to meet w/ my therapist tomorrow as I know I am going to be super stressed. Anyone have suggestions on how to deal with stress when you can't use your prior stress reducers of alcohol and food??????? Anne

Hey Anne ~ Sorry to hear about your DH's job.. Any recourse on that? All my best you you both. I suggest a nice long walk or a vigorous work out to relieve some of those stressers. Dana

Hiya Anne, You and your hubby will be in my thoughts. I'm a single parent and have had one roller coaster of a year. In fact, my two best friends and I call this "The Surreal Year"; all of us have had a bizzarrely hard time of it. I'm not one to offer great anti-stress advice, as I'm still learning myself, but I can say thank GOD for anti-anxiety/anti depressant medication. A very sweet friend of mine also just presented me with a gift certificate for a full spa treatment at a local day spa here - not sure when I can take off work to DO it, but I'm sure it will be wonderful. My therapist tells me that exercise and journaling are two very good ways to work through the feelings. I'm working on working on it.... Hang in there - as a wise person keeps telling me, "The future is almost always friendly". love Michelle

Plug into your program even more. Call people, meditate. Just do not pick up a drink no matter what! Drinking will only make it worse. You may not "feel" the stress temporarily but when / if you come out of the stupor it will be a bigger mess. hugs, Laurie
