Whew, what a week. Now that this crazy election cycle is over, I hope we can get back to real life. The debate still rages within my family though. It'll make an interesting Thanksgiving weekend. All that said, I did a little better with food and exercise, but I still have a long way to go. I'd like to lose another 2# or so before the Thanksgiving weekend.
One amazing win and one heartbreaking loss this week. That Lions win past week was unbelievable. Now they get to rest this week to prepare for the rest of the season. Michigan definitely had a tough time at Iowa yesterday. They didn't show up to play. I'm hopeful that the loss removes the pressure from the team, and now they can win out!!
So everyone, take a deep breath. Relax. Have a great week!!

Alabama was gracious enough to hand M-State our asses back before we got back on the buses to go back to Starkville. 51-3. Cowboys are in Pittsburg this afternoon.
Hoping that with the election behind us that the Country will give the man a chance. He's going to be hoeing up hill on a weed filled row but you don't get to where he is at without putting in some work and know how to get things done.
And on behalf of the Brothers and Sisters in the cities dealing with the hooligans:
Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

It's been a month since my surgery and I think I am finally getting the hang of this.
After a week where I didn't lose any weight, last week was a very good week as I dropped 5lbs. I am starting to drink more water, and my eating is starting to settle in with a good habit, so everything is going well. I started walking but I do still get stomach pain after I exert myself, and I think it is due to the gallstones. Hopefully I can get that gallbladder removed early next year and resolve the problem once and for all.
It is still an experiment every time I try something new, and I do ok most of the time, but some foods just don't agree with me. I went out to eat with my wife and that worked out ok once and not so well another time. My favorite place to eat prior to the surgery was a sushi buffet, but now, of course, buffets are gone for good, which if fine with my wife because she didn't really enjoy them that much. So I did try su****his week (sashimi actually) and I was able to eat a little bit, about half a roll. I do enjoy going out to dinner, so I am glad that we will still be able to do that, just doing it a lot less now.
I am amazed that I have not had rice in an entire month. I was born in Cuba and grew up in a Cuban household where rice was a staple of just about every meal. I thought that would be my biggest adjustment, but I have to admit I have only missed it a couple of times. I tried eating some black beans, but the gas was extremely painful, so I think I will stay away from beans for the time being.
Anyway, the Eagles are on TV today, so it will be a good day. This season I don't really care too much whether they win or lose. I just want to see the rookie play well. Last week was a heartbreaker though, as they should have beat the Giants, and since I grew up in Connecticut, I still have lots of friends who are Giants fans. But I know they will not be a good team until they get at least one good receiver. Right now their top receiver would probably be #3 on any other NFL team, and that sucks. The Giants loss I put squarely on the rookie head coach though, but I think he will learn a lot this season too, so next year, look out!
Congratulations on your surgery! You have a whole new life awaiting. It is difficult at first to figure out the food and diet. Also I would expect some pain for a while. I am one year post op and started at 337 and I am down to 175. Having surgery was one of the best decisions of my life. I suffered from chronic back pain prior to surgery and could barely move. Now I have very little pain and stiffness and just ran my first marathon 26.2 miles. I have been eating peanuts and pecans for a year with no problems and in the last few weeks I have been in pain every time I try to eat peanuts or pecans. Keep up the great work! Congrats on 5 lbs. I think you will find everyone here helpful and supportive- Good luck keep us posted

Slight uptick in scale. No biggie as maintenance is a roller coaster gotta deal with it!
As far as the election all I can say is I'm happy it's over. If nothing else it will be interesting 4 years. As others have noted would be happy to see a little more national unity rather then some Of the divide.

NSV of the Week- ran in the local YMCA 5 mile turkey trot finishing in a time of 4420. Not bad as I've not really been training!

Sameness. Which is probably a good thing. I don't really obsess about my weight much. I worry, of course, but not to obsession. I'm finally realizing that at 200 pounds I can afford a choice here or slip-up there and not "ruin" everything I've worked so hard at for the past few years.

Interesting, I found a bug in the Apple Watch Health App. You can only get 228 days in a row of meeting your exercise goal. On the 229th day, it doesn't update. What a find! I was running and treadmilling and driving myself nuts waiting to get my achievement and it never came.
I'm opting out of election coverage for a bit. It's just too much. And the protests in Chicago (I live downtown) are just too close to home. I'm just trying to be calm and focus on tennis scores and football. I devoted too much attention to the run up to the vote. I need a minute mentally just to be out of it. This election was the nastiest, most hate-filled campaign and I just need a moment of zen.
Have a great week!
Hey guys- checking in. One year post op. Starting weight 337. I have had some up and downs with my weight. The week of 10/22 I was on a family vacation and ran 8 miles a day 5 of those 7 days. I came home and had lost 5 lbs down to 170.1- very exciting. Then on 11/5 I was able to complete my first marathon and I was at about 171- 173. I finished in 5 hours 43 minutes, I am glad to just finish, the average is 4 hours and 30 minute -so yes I am very slow. Now for the concerning part- I have jumped up to 175. I dont have any plans to run 45-60 miles a week just to keep my weight down. I cannot keep up that kind of mileage. My eating seems to be a little out of control. I am eating protein bars and drinking protein shakes for lunch and breakfast. Then at dinner I have either salmon or crab or just vegetables with another protein bar. I am eating the right foods- but too much!! . I am now interested in training for a Sprint Triathlon in June 2017 for Fathers day. 750 meters swim in open water about a 1/2 mile , 20k bike race 12 miles and 5k run - 3.2 miles .
So now I have started swimming in the mornings and then getting on the treadmill for a half hour and the on the stationary bike for a half hour. Even though I am not running 9 or 10 miles each morning I am starving/ravenous after swimming for just a half hour to 45 minutes. I am really struggling with the swimming. The pool is 25 meters and I cannot swim one lap without stopping several times.
I am hoping my weight is not going to skyrocket just because I am no longer running long distances. Well it seems like I continue to struggle with over eating even after surgery. I am going to be grateful for weighing 175 and not 337.
If anyone has any suggestions, advice words of wisdom for training for a sprint triathlon and any suggestions on how to build endurance swimming it would be greatly appreciated- Thanks have a good week!
