Ron "Varsity Blues" Lester's Passing

Saw this in the OH Newsletter today, and just don't know what to say ..

 I got to hear Ron speak at the OH Nat. Conf. and his story - about his weight struggles and post-op struggles with excess skin (which cost him a new g/f and which, in turn, almost caused him to commit suicide) ..  I just can't believe this happened, and he was only 45, on top of it ..  Was his WLS somehow responsible for it?  Did he go through all that just for nothing?   I just don't understand it ..       

Sad to hear.  I will say that even with all the weight loss, for years we have put much stress on our hearts and kidneys with obesity...It can cause many to die younger than most... 

I read the article and also wanted to know more information. I wanted to know if he had heart problems from the Weight Loss Surgery?  I have read somewhere where later in life some people have had heart problems?   

I have to ask ? What is a a DS failure? 

I don't think it was a WLS-induced heart issue.  Being a liver/kidney issue, that usually points (from my understanding) to either something genetic, or induced by either poor diet (starvation for example) or alcohol abuse.

The alcohol abuse is a particularly nasty way to shut your body down -- a family friend died of kidney failure.  The kidney failure was brought on by cirrhosis, which shut down her liver.  The cirrhosis was brought on by her alcoholism.
