How Much do you guys eat each day
800 calories a day long term isn't feasible for most men (IMHO). After I saw my weight above 200#, I cut back three days in a row to between 780 and 900 calories. Today, I completly ran out of gas working out. I just didn't have the energy to keep going (if I'm being honest, I still had a long workout - about 90 min). Your energy balance is going to be based on your weight, muscle mass and activity level.
Regarding meal plans, I generally get most of my protein by meat. I do supplement with a protein shake once in a while, especially after lifting heavy and a long workout. I do sometimes eat a protein bar as a snack at night, and always carry one with me in case my blood sugar drops.

I agree and I don't think men can eat 800 calories a day and stay healthy or have the energy to workout.
For me the 2,200 calories a day seems like a good number, and I'm lower than goal weight. My challenge is to make good choices to balance out a healthy eating plan.

I'm 6'1" 229. I have stayed between 600-800 a day for 6 months. I work out daily. I'm getting healthy and rarely need rest. My energy is great, and I'm productive and active.
I'm the living proof that you may not be right in believing that 800 is not enough. My food choices are much different than your's, and the nutrient rich foods that I eat are much more beneficial per calorie. Dense proteins and non-starchy veg and water are my priority. I never drink calories.
I'm all about supporting everyone here. But I intend to remain at 800 or less for another year. Is that unhealthy?
If you're still in losing mode and you feel good, then I wouldn't challenge that. In fact I agree with Grim about the calories during the losing phase. When you're maintaining, you'll need more, but YMMV. As long as you feel good, your tests are coming in OK and your weight is where you want it, you're good.
jmuldune- Thanks for posting! I have noticed my calories about a month or 2 after surgery were about 800 calories per day. Then my calories crept up to 1100 per day and yesterday I had 1400 calories. Sometimes I read that RNY forum where they post "RNYers what are you having to eat today" and I noticed a lot of those folks are eating 800 or less calories per day?? And I have often wondered am I eating way too much food each day. I am eating 70-90 grams of carbs per day (from protein bars mostly) and 110 grams of protein per day. Is anyone here just eating 800 calories per day?
It looks like you still have 80 pounds to lose? If it were me, I would cut back to 800 calories until you lose most of that. I never went over 1,000 until I hit goal. 1,400 is too much for what you want to lose. It will be slow, take too long, and you'll run out of steam long before you hit goal.
I maintain on 2,500 calories a day. But honestly, this is a race. This is the time that you'll be able to eat really low calories without tremendous effort. Losing a bunch of weight now is much, much, much, MUCH easier than it will be a year, or two, or three from now.
Get the weight gone, then you can increase to whatever your maintenance level will be.

I;m still in full losing mode and have a pretty steady routine.
1 scrambeled egg for breakfast.
1 protein shake about 10:30
1 P-3 pack for lunch.
1 protein shake n the ride home.
dinner is usually a little piece of meat, like half a burger pattie or half a chop and about 4 ounces of a green veggie.
most days I'll have a protein bar at some point.
That's it. A little boring, but it's working. around 800 calories I reckon.

I've lost almost 260 pounds and I'm still around 800 calories per day. I still focus on protein and have not allowed (m)any liquid calories. I also still don't feel hunger (YAY!) so I don't feel like I have to eat. I meal plan 2 days at a time, log everything and stick to what works. I feel great, never tired, my labs are on point and I far surpassed my doctor's wildest imagination for my success. Everyone's different, but if you're still losing, drop the calories. My mantra: since I'm counting calories I make each ONE worth it. If it's not worth it, don't eat it. Good luck!
