Anyone have a recommendation for a knee brace for running?
I've gotten it into my head that I want to run a marathon next summer. I'm not a big runner, but it is something that I never thought I'd be able to do, and now I feel that if I start training now, I could do it. I found a six-month plan and I'm going to start following next week, and I really feel that I can do this.
The only problem is I have a bum knee. Doing my work on the treadmill doesn't really bother it, but it obviously is something completely different to (eventually) do 26.2 miles. Does anyone have a suggestion of a knee brace that works well for you while running? I haven't tried to run since I've lost my weight, so I'm hoping that I'm pleasantly surprised with how my body reacts, but we'll see.

Not sure if my bum knee is as bad as yours, but I just took my time in building my training base on the pavement. Made for some sore nights (love me an ice bath) but nothing that stopped me from going out the next day. Now I just stick to a compression sleeve. Keeps it warm throughout the run but isn't as cumbersome as those big *******s. Also, spend the money on the right shoes. They are worth every penny.

I've never heard of someone running a marathon, or even a half marathon, wearing a brace. That doesn't mean it can-t be done. I have a friend who runs, I'll ask him tomorrow.

Thanks. When I was heavy, whenever I would try to run or jog, my knee would swell and get stiff. I haven't tried to really test it since I've lost my weight (I usually stick to the elliptical or bike at the gym). Hopefully I'm worrying for nothing.
