Last Weekend of Summer Weigh In
Very wise and true words NateH! Couldn't agree more.
Ohiodiethuy, even though I have just started the journey (just over 5 months post surgery), I can tell you it is the best choice I ever made. Just look at how far YOU'VE come already...and that before surgery! Congrats! Don't you feel better already? I think all of us had our doubts and reservations prior to surgery. I had my fair share believe me. But if there's one thing I can tell you...this is more of a mental and attitude change than a physical experience. If you make the choice to change, for the right reasons, you can and will succeed. If this is of any help, ask yourself the question I asked myself before my surgery...how badly do you want to change for the better? How badly do you want to be healthy, fit and strong? How badly do you want to live the best life possible? How much are you willing to commit to make this dream come true? If you can answer this very honestly, you'll know which way to go. This is also what I keep reminding myself everyday, especially when I feel I'm falling back into old habits. Habits are taught...so learn new habits. I've noticed that "good habits" comes just as easily as "bad habits". Once the "good habits" sets in, they're just as hard to break than the "bad habits".
As for your concerns about hernias, ulcers...guess what? That can easily be treated. When they did my G-scope 3 months post op, the surgeon found that where the duodenum was attached to the pouch, an ulcer formed. (According to him not uncommon with RNY). He gave me tablets for that and it has healed beautifully in a short space of time. No discomfort or pain to speak of. I also believe that if you stick to the rules and follow the guidelines with regards to lifting heavy stuff (yip, take it easy in the gym!!), you should be fine.
In my experience so far, I have never been so in touch with my body. Listen to it...this goes for everything: food, sleep, exercise, any other physical activity...it will tell you exactly what to do. You just need to listen. As for the eating, I saw someone posted on here a while ago a comment that I always keep in mind: "Shut up stomach...you're bored, not hungry". If you can start to listen and distinguish between the two, I believe that is almost 90% of the battle won.
Good luck with your surgery. You'll do just fine...and remember...this group is there for you, just as they have been for me so far. Keep up the good work! You won't regret it.

Horrible week last week. My grandfather died, a student committed suicide at our high school, and plenty of other crap. I can't wait for this month to be over.
I don't know how I stayed on plan, but somehow I did. The old me would've just gorged myself with all this stress. I know I can't let my guard down, but I feel that my new habits are starting to take hold.
