Day 13 after VSG - Progress Report

I am feeling really pretty good right now.  Other than weak and tire easily I can't complain at all.  Food is going well, I am getting 64+ ounces of water in a day.  My food intake seems to be much greater than others that say 600 calories of so.  My three snacks a day (double milks) are each 166 calories for 500 calories right there.  Maybe because I am male and lot of the 600 calorie intakes I read about in the blogs from other people are women.  My other food consists of 3 oz cream soup pureed and made with double milk (1/3 cup powdered milk and 1 cup skim milk, for the whole can).  Usually makes about 4 servings for me. A little plain yogurt, 1 oz sugar free pudding made with double milk and have added in very soft scrambled egg in the mornings the last two days.

Have not even had any stomach spasms from drinking water today..... sometimes if I take too big a drink my stomach talks back a little.

I get to start soft food on Wednesday, although I already started with the scrambled eggs, but looking forward to some oatmeal, cottage cheese etc. for the next two weeks!  Then the real food starts to be added back around August 1.  I really think I am ahead of schedule with being able to digest regular food but will stick with the plan.

The only real complaint is that I am in the stall that people talk about, lost 13 lbs almost immediately following surgery but really have only lost maybe two lbs the last 7 days or so.  I'm not frustrated, just a bit surprised since I am not eating much.  I do supplement a little with Premier protein when not at home and it is hard to take food along.  Also, have used a little as a coffee creamer, etc.  My physician is of the philosophy that all protein supplements should only be real food, hence the double milk, but sometimes taking that with me is a bit of a hassle.

Nice job. FWIW, I was only eating 600 cal total for about two months after surgery. We are not allowed liquid calories, so no milk for me😀

Keep eps up the good work.

Glad your feeling well. I would watch trying to eat oatmeal.  My surgeons team had me focus on protein, and had me measure everything and limit to a 1/4 cup or 3 to 4 Oz portions max as to aid stomach healing. You need to remember they cut the part of the stomach that will tell you your full. The  weight will come off in time if you follow their plan.

It's a simple formula for life. 2,200 or so calories per day minus what you eat = your weight gain or loss. Get in the protein and you'll feel full and lose weight. The 600 calories a day early on also applies to men. I would suggest you lay off double Milk and limit to 1 eight oz milk a day plus protein supplements for a long while.

This is my physician's diet plan through the University of Iowa to use only double milk and absolutely no powder or premix protein supplements.  The nutritionist at the University has been pretty explicit about that too.  Currently, I am getting about 1100 calories a day in.

So I think at least for now better stick with them.....  They want me to follow a 100/100 protein/carb diet pretty soon.
