Happy Fathers Day Weigh In

Surgery in 10 days, either RNY or Sleeve depending on situation. Currently on the pre surgery blended diet. 800 cals/1200 cals every other day. A question, is it better to make sure things are blended/soft or smooth or make sure I keep to the calorie limit? I am still losing weight and have told myself as long as it is soft/smooth or blended the cals aren't really that important right now in the process prior to surgery. I am feeling satisfied but calorie counting isn't my thing. I am sure I am getting enough calories but more than likely going over with a weight loss. Any opinions?

I would go with what the doctor and their team tells you. If they said 800 and 1200 alternate days I would do it. I had 1000 a day for 3 weeks. Others have 800 or all liquid and many others. My thing was i picked the doctor and their team because of the success they have. So I listen to what they said. If I had or have any questions at all I was told to talk their team. I am lucky as they have nutritionist and everyone on call if it is after hours. I did surgery as a last ditch effort to save my life. So I am all in. I'm not trying to come across to hard, it's just a serious decision. And we are in the men's forum.so you will get straight answers here. My goal was set as a first goal. It looks like I might be setting a new one soon. This is a great place. With many great people. I hope to see you and follow your weekly progress.

My pre-op diet was a protein shake for breakfast, a protein shake for lunch, a frozen Lean Cuisine (or something similar) and a salad for dinner. I'm guessing it's around the 800 calorie mark you're set at. As far as I know, it's important to lose some weight before surgery, so I would think the calories are more important than the texture. Any drop in weight before surgery will shrink your liver, making it easier for the surgeon to do his work.

Happy Father's Day to all those who have been blessed to be a Dad. One of the best things about my WLS Journey is being able to be a better dad in terms of my own actions in regards to living a healthy life style. My 3 kids are the best thing in my life as they mean the world to me!!
Eating: Overall pretty good week in terms of food intake. A few meals/snacks not highly recommended but again happy with my eating overall. One tough day was on Saturday had a grad party for our oldest daughter for about 75 people and had it catered by BBQ guy...man it was good but did well in not pigging out!
Vitamins: This has been good. My Iron has been low so have doubled intake of it in hopes it gets better
Water: OK, could always be better
Exercise: Pretty good week, worked out 6/7 days...excited as I am training to do a Triathaoln in July!!
Have a great week!
Yours in WLS Journey,
Bill Mac

Had two of my son's and a grandson with me today in SC. Other son is in Louisiana. I'll get to see him and my dad next week in Orange Beach. It'll be a blast. Hope all of the other father's have a great day.
Been a decent week. Too hot to walk so I stay busy around the yard. It's gonna be a challenge to stay away from the beer next week but I'll try.

I'll take it! I had a great week with food and water, but my exercise dipped just a bit. I hadn't had a day "off" since April, so I took a day this week just to rest. I felt a bit guilty, but I needed a day just to rest. Biggest win: I bought new pants, including a pair of jeans. I haven't worn jeans in a long time. And size 40" waist! The last time I bought jeans, I think I had to get 50 or 52s. And on my new belt that's 3 weeks old today, I went from the first hole and barely getting it fastened to the 4th hole already.
Have a great week everyone, and happy father's day to the dads in the group.
Happy Father’s Day to all!
My stats this week:
High weight: 392.0 lbs
Pre-op Weight 4 Aug 09: 377.5 lbs
1st Surgiversary: 241.0 lbs
2nd Surgiversary: 212.5 lbs
3rd Surgiversary: 217.0 lbs
4th Surgiversary: 214.0 lbs
5th Surgiversary: 223.0 lbs
5/24/15: 220.8 lbs / 21.6% body fat / 164.6 lbs muscle mass
This week: 220.4 lbs / 19.6% body fat / 168.6 lbs muscle mass
It’s been 4 weeks since I’ve last weighed-in. I’m down a smidge, 0.4 lbs overall but up 4.0 lbs muscle mass. While in England and France for 22 days, I averaged about 12k steps per day walking. Though the amazing food was not necessarily low-fat and low-carb, I was able to focus on protein as much as possible and did well mindfully eating.
Besides the urban hiking at the sights, I got in some decent hikes in the fells of England’s Lake District and the cliffs and beaches of Normandy. This was an awesome experience of a lifetime because I was physically able to engage fully - that was not possible 6 years ago pre-op.
Be safe & have a great week gentlemen!
-Mike
