no meloxicam any more.... what are you taking now for osteoarthritis?
I am trying to go without Meloxicam as my pain relief for osteoarthritis and just using Tylenol Arthritis. My physician is hoping to do an RNY surgery which means no more NSAIDs for arthritis. Anyone else in this same position and what options do I have other than Tylenol?

my local physician said to take Tylenol as an option. Now this was just in passing and I don't think he was "looking in to it". But was just wondering if others had that issue and what they did. My arthritis pain is "mostly" in my hands and I don't think weight loss is going to help that a lot. The weight loss will probably help my knees and ankles that at times give me trouble, but I am not expecting total relief at all. The Tylenol is working reasonably at the moment so I have my fingers crossed that will be enough.

4K, you'll be amazed at where you will lose weight! Granted you don't think you will in your hands but you will. May not be but a pound or less to the "mitt" but there will be some loss. You'll need smaller gloves when it is all said and done. Fingers crossed it will help with the arthritis in your hands. What will not help is how much colder your hands, and whole body, will feel. Just part of the journey.
Have you considered or discussed with your surgeon the sleeve rather than the RNY? The sleeve (and related DS) tend to be more NSAID friendly than the RNY due to differences in their construction (though as usual, there are situations where the RNY is preferred, so it comes down the the compromises needed for each individual patient.)

Yes, and they are considering that issue about NSAIDs going into surgery. But even on VSG I would have to stay off of NSAIDs for probably six months so based on my surgeon's plan, I was asking in either case, if others had any suggestions as to what might work? The Tylenol gives some relief, but not alot. I am trying to go without anything for a few weeks and hopefully the weight loss will provide the relief.

Just read your note. I am 3 to 4 mos away from RNY, I take Celebrex every day. No one has mentioned this to me. Are there any exceptions to this rule? Are there other meds that cannot be taken? I have to take NSAIDs every day just to be able to move and walk

Wish I could tell you, this is just what the surgeon and his staff has told me. He did mention there were other options. But didn't go into detail. I am hoping that possibly I could try some cortisone shots in my wrists to relieve my most intense pain. Otherwise, my other arthritic joints hurt but are at least somewhat tolerable at this point and hopefully the weight loss will help my ankles, back etc.
