How did you set your goal weight?

Hello Gents, I am 6 weeks out and down 51 to 310.2 with VSG.  How did each of you set your goal weights?  My doc threw around some numbers, but nothing really scientific or exact.  When I still had a six pack at 20yo, i weighed about 200#, much higher than my 5'9" height would dictate, but there was alot of muscle. Maybe it is still there, gift wrapped.   Any suggestions appreciated.

I am going to leave this for some of the vets here. I am mulling this about in my head as well. The NUT told me I should expect to get to at least 261. so that was my first goal weight. I am am shooting to get to college basketball playing weight of 245-250. I actually had a beer gut then. lol. I look at the BMI charts and it says 210 is high weight to be normal range for my height of 6'5?? We will see what the next 1`2 months brings.

Ht:6'5 Start weight 427, surgery weight=362 current weight 238 goal weight unsure?

At 5-09, 200-210 would be a good range.  Speaking in general terms and not individual specific you may bottom out below 200 but don't be surprised by regain or "bounce".

I'm 5-06 went from 331, Apr '08, to a low of 165 after my gall bladder came out Oct '09.  Was too "wormy" looking to use the E. TX vernacular.  At a tad over seven years out my "red line" is 175.  It is a weight I like and comfortable with that I can maintain.

My first goal idea was 225, and my thinking was that was the last time I was "in shape." My surgeon thought 250. I'm 6'3". I just kept riding the weight down instead of trying to stop at a specific number. I ended up between 185 and 190, inside the healthy BMI range.

A lot has to do with your body frame.  Before surgery my nutritionist told me I was a medium frame...I just laughed...Said "yeah sure".  Sure enough he was right.  I was a high school football lineman...How could I be a medium frame.  Then I remember in high school I got down to a low of about 180 working on diet (getting rid of the beer belly).  So after being at a high of around 300 pounds, for many years...Losing all the weight, the nutritionist was right.  You can look at the pictures in my profile...highest to lowest.  With the lowest you can see the medium frame that was behind all the fat.  From what I've heard from the doctors over the years, as long as your body fat doesn't drop below 2% you can almost go as low as you would like to.  I also would encourage you to work on going as low as you can (while being healthy).  What happens is the Carb Monster (simple carbs) start to tempt you later on.  You start to think..."I'm doing pretty good, I'll have some of that candy"...A little reward.  Then come things like Pepsi, chips, birthday cake...Before you know it, you are back to your old ways.  Anyways...Just saying to use this opportunity to get healthy and at an ideal weight...Don't blow it as some (including me) have, by justifying away a healthy diet.  Brian

I'm 6'3", and my doctor gave me a target weight of 250.  Even at the time I thought that was too high, so I gave myself a goal of 230.  I've since revised that to 210, which was my low weight in high school.  My plan is to get into the 190's, see how that looks, and be ready for a bounce back.  I figure that'll get me to my 210.

BMI states the most I should weigh to be normal is 199, but I have a large frame, and I don't think being in the low 200's would really be overweight for me.  But who knows, maybe I'll be like Grim, get down low, and end up staying there.

I had no goal weight. Now I do.  I got down to 215 and hated the way I looked I liked how I looked at 220-225 so that is goal.

I set my goal weight at 250. I don't even know the last time I weighed that much. I know it should be less but for me that is a real goal. Now once I achieve that goal then I may have another one set.
