Hi All,

I just went to the information session for bariatric surgery on Monday night.  I have my consult on the 12th of March.

I'm 6'0" and hpvering around 300 pounds.  I am 40 for BMI but also have sleep apnea, hyperlipidemia, and am pre-diabetic.

I have been heavy most of my life except when I would be active for brief periods for sports or the police academy.  Now that I am 40 I find the weight harder to keep off and I am at my heaviest.  While I am unhappy with my weight, I am more concerned with reversing or improving the medical conditions that I am facing.  Neither of my parents lived past 61 years so I want to get healthy and beat that record.

I know that surgery is only a tool and not the solution in and of itself.  I am fine with that and with changing my lifestyle and doing the work.  If I managed to get myself clean and sober, I can do this.  Just like my previous battles in life I can't do this one alone.  I had professional help with the others and I am going to enlist professional help in this fight too.

I hope you all are having a wonderful day and either approaching goal or living it.

Thanks!

Scott

Hey Scott!

Congrats on taking the first step(s) in the process of WLS.  Surgery works on our plumbing not our programming.  Just like getting sober or quitting smoking for WLS to work for you - you have to be ready in your head to make the change.  This is not the"easy way out".  Not "no" but "HELL NO" it is not the "easy way out"!  It takes a toll on your body, your emotions, your coping mechanisms, your home life etc.

Speaking from the prospective of a twenty year small town police officer getting professional help is a wise thing to do.  **** the ******** in public safety work who look down on those who have had some professional help.  They could probably use some themselves but just don't want to admit it!

Hi Scott,

It sounds like you're already in a great frame of mind, understanding that this surgery is not magic, and it still takes a lot of work.  Your tool will help you be successful if you keep this in mind.  Good luck with everything!
