Does alcohol actually cause more liver and brain damage in late stage RNY?

Brian,

The alcohol and yoga didn't seen to cause any problems. Actually, that may have been how I started - the one glass actually made me sleep so well after. Then, they canceled the class I needed and I couldn't sleep on one glass, so I went to two. As for the Uric acid issue. Mine only goes high if I start drinking sodas. As long as I'm drinking plenty of clear water it stays down. Diet sodas seem to give me urinary issues now, so I don't normally drink them. I had one kidney stone a long time ago and my doc says I have a hard shell around the outside of my gall bladder, probably from age, but uric acid is manageable post op.

About the other dangers. Not having the enzyme from the stomach to breakdown alcohol and having it bypass that stage all together makes it a more harmful substance, though I understand that the enzyme also exists in the liver and in minute quantities in cells.  So cancer and brain damage are more likely to occur.

Best Wishes,

Dave

I found this. Not sure how well-researched it is. http://bariatrictimes.com/alcohol-and-the-gastric-bypass-patient/
