Filling in for Don this wet and rainy morning (3" of rain and counting). Without much warning summer magically appeared last week. Its an awesome feeling knowing we have three or four months of beautiful weather in front of us.
Last week was a pretty good one for me. I'm satisfied with the 2# lost, but as always, hoped it would be more. I keep reminding myelf that the weight didn't come on all at once and the main goal is improved health with the happy consequence being weigh loss.
This week I see my PCP and next week I see the Bariatric Doc. I got my first set of lab results in front of my appt with the PCP and I am very satisfied with my A1c and cholesterol. In fact, every test was normal except for thyroid. We are still trying to adjust that dosage with the weight loss. I have never had vitamins checked, but I'm hoping to get that done next week. My Hemoglobin was right at the bottom of the range, so I'm concerned that my iron may be getting low. Time to adjust my vitamin regiment I think.
Next week I travel again. I'll be in the Chicago area for two days. I was able to get in some good workouts this week, and there is no reason I cant get in more good workouts next week. I noticed that even with some very good strength training, I was only tired and sore the next day with no acute pain. This is telling me I am getting in better shape!!
I hope everyone here has a great week!

I was happy to see a one pound loss after all of the snacking I did while on vacation last week. I guess I got a fair amount of exercise with golfing, hiking, geocaching and kayaking, which probably made the difference. I tried to run while we were camping and blew out my hip, so I need to stick to walking for a while. I also received my labs last week, and like John, my Hemoglobin was at the very bottom of the acceptable range, so I am going to try to add a little more meat to my meal plan. Most proteins are still very difficult for me to eat, so I tend to avoid red meat and get my protein intake from dairy and protein powder, so maybe I will just have to suffer and enjoy some beef tenderloin every day.
Have a great week everyone.
Mike
I have definitely reduced my red meat intake since surgery. I have not had any issues with nice rare meat, but I have eaten more fish to reduce calories with high protein content. I will also add more red meat to my diet :).
Another thing thing I learned yesterday was that I was taking my vitamins wrong. I was taking my multivitamin twice daily, once at breakfast and once at lunch. I was taking my calcium in the afternoon/evening. I learned that the tannins in my morning teat are binding with the iron in my multivitamin rendering it ineffective. I am switching my multivitamin to evenings now to see how that goes.
lots of rules to follow, but we will get it.

John, thanks for filling in for Don!
What goes up, happily is going down. After gaining 5 pounds in the last couple weeks, lost 4 this week. I attribute it to Mindful Eating, Water consumption, Vitamins and daily exercise. Simple plan, but not always easy to follow. In any event, happy to see the scale move down. Now, gotta keep the momentum up as we enter the Summer season.Hope you all have a great week!!
Yours in WLS Journey,
Bill Mac

Thanks for posting John. I also have business travel to San Diego tomorrow through Friday. The trend has been that I lose weight more when traveling because of 1) time and 2) I'm afraid to eat things and tend to eat less of food in restaurants.
I did intentionally increase my calories this week by adding an evening snack of peanut butter with some whole grain crackers - adding about 200 calories to the day. I'm hoping I've found my "stay" program at least for now.
Stepped up the exercise this week focusing on core strength - I find I am so very weak since all of my exercise up until now even pre-surgery was always so cardio focused to lose weight.
I hope everyone has a great week!
I found that even though I should have had a lot of strength carryng around 337#, I was in fact very weak. My son was complaining about being weak due to all the running he does, and so he started doing cross fit to build muscle. Based on his history with only cardio workouts, I started working out with a trainer to build muscle mass now as I lose weight in addition to the cardio. I'm sure its slowing down my weight loss, but seeing the success of others on this board, I wanted to follow in their footsteps.
Building muscle mass should help you stabalize your weight loss a little, and "in my humble opinion" should make the maintenence of your weight loss easier also. Good luck with this and please keep us posted on your progress.
PS- I'll trade you Chicago for San Diego!!!

Good week this week. I am getting into the routine and things are starting to come naturally. Went to the Dr. this week and they want me to add a protein shake in to up my protein levels. Went and climbed a local mountain today. It was rough but I made it. The last time I climbed it was 14 years ago so I am happy with that.
Have a great week everyone.

@John - thanks for holding down the fort this week.
@ Kevin - good job on the mountain!
Family gig over weekend was enjoyable. No beach time, wish I had my Mule down there though, but hanging out on the porch, enjoying the shade and breeze, jaw jacking, watching the waves was relaxing.
Back to work today though.
Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!
