Saw Dr. Kuhn Wednesday for my 6th Surgiversary and almost gave the poor Medical Assistant a coronary. I know I embarrassed the crap out of her. I'm speaking only for myself here but when I go to the doctor I'm going to "lighten up" as much as I can before getting on the scales. Sneakers came off and instead of emptying the pockets it was easier to drop the shorts I had on. I had on clean skivvies, blue ones at that, but I guess they don't have too many folks do that but I told her when I did that I was "vain" about the number on the scales - especially his! I wanted it as low as it would go! Pissed I was at 178.0 but it is what it is. Nice visit with him. Need to do some remedial RNY 101, leave the real deal candy alone and go back to SF or gnaw on a protein bar instead, but otherwise steady as she goes.
Make the most out of what you are dealt this week!

405 ==> Highest Weight (7/19/2013) and start of program
352 ==> Weight on the day of surgery (53 pounds lost pre-op) (12/27/2013)
285 ==> Last week
282 ==> This week (4 months out since surgery, 70 pounds lost post-op) (4/27/2014)
Down 3 pounds or so this week, slow and steady, had 3 great workouts and continue to make progress. I’ve averaged 17.5 pounds lost per month so far, and while I expect that to taper off, so far so good.
Don, 6 years out and holding steady, what a great accomplishment! I guess we would call that a major FART! Everyone seems successful a few months out, but it's 3, 4, 5, 6 years and beyond that really inspires me to be the best I can be. I know what you mean, I stripped down at my last weigh in and I think the nurse was a bit startled. I didn't mind, the number looked good to me.
Have a great week everyone, hope you are all doing well!

Not a good week for me as far as nutrition, vitamins, food, or water. I really do not like the taste of anything and have to force myself to eat. I have a follow up with the nut Wed. to move on to "normal eating" I will discuss it with her while I am there although reading up on it it looks like it happens to about 14% of surgery patients. Gave my notice and took the new job and in return I received a can you please make sure that the project your working on is completed before your last day. I should have said not a chance but that is not my style so I worked 80 + hours. At least that will come to an end this week and I will go back to working normal hours the following week. I did not make it to the gym once this week and really is not looking good for this week either but I will try to make it at least a couple of times.
I finally broke down and went clothes shopping (Figured I needed to wear clothes that fit for the new job) and I am down 2 sizes in both shirts and pants. I could have went down another size in some shirts but it would have been tight that would been uncomfortable for all.
Hey Don I am curious how tall are you? I am 5'8 and my doctor set my goal at 218. I set my personal goal at under 200. I would love to get down to 180 but not really sure how feasible that is.
At 5-08 190-200 would be a good area. To answer your question 5-06, took after my Mom's side.
Congrats on accepting the new gig and doing "right" by your soon to be ex boss and getting your project done.
Should have gone with the tighter shirts. You'd be noticing how lose they are in a month or two!

Kevin,
For comparison, I am 5' 11" and my goal is 175/180#. No idea if I can get there, but my doctor told me I should lose 50 - 85% of my excess weight. My excess weight was calculated based on the low end of the BMI scale at ~160#. I would look anorexic at that weight though. At 175/180 I am at the high end of the BMI sclae for my height, and approximatly 85% excess weight loss, which is the high end of the expected amount. I am 100% convinced I will get there. I am starting to work out like crazy so I can build muscle and develop good habits to stay there. I know that maintianing will be my biggest challenge, even moreso than losing.
Hope that helps.
John

This week my weight is more accurate than Last week. I am averaging about 2 1/2 - 3 1/2#/week which I am OK with. I worked out 6 out of 7 days, and feel good about my workout progress. I am aiming to work out 4 - 5 times per week. This week I started more strength training, and will continue that going forward in addition to my cardio workouts.
From an eating standpoint I had some excellent days ( 1 gm protien/10 calories) and I had some bad days (where I am fighting my evening snacking demons). I need to keep snack foods out of the house, but my wife likes them. Fortunatly the snack foods we have are either low fat (pretzles) or high protein (yasso forzen yogurt bars). Stopping the need to snack has to now get my full attention.
No travel for two weeks, so I will need to continue to combat the snacking but at least I will be able to select good foods to eat. Two personal training workouts planned, and I'll fill in the rest of the week with some good cardio workouts.
All the best everyone. Have a great week.
@Don, I’m just glad that my doc doesn’t use bioimpedance scales to measure %body fat too. You have to strip naked for them to measure properly!
@RNYGuyPA, slow & steady wins the marathon!
@Kevin, you’ll be back on track in no time once you get into a healthy routine with your new job! I’m 5’10” and my surgeon set my goal at 210 lbs. I told my surgeon that my personal goal is 190 lbs. He smiled and said “good luck”. The lowest I was able to get to was 210.5 lbs.
@John, definitely is easier when temptation is not in house.
My stats this week:
High weight: 392.0 lbs
Pre-op Weight 4 Aug 09: 377.5 lbs
1st Surgiversary: 241.0 lbs
2nd Surgiversary: 212.5 lbs
3rd Surgiversary: 217.0 lbs
4th Surgiversary: 214.0 lbs
Last week: 221.4 lbs / 21.0% body fat / 166.4 lbs muscle mass
This week: 223.8 lbs / 20.4% body fat / 169.4 lbs muscle mass
This week I’m up 2.4 lbs overall with 3.0 lbs increased muscle mass. I made it to the gym on 5 days this past week (3 days cardio & 2 days Physioslow strength). I did ok mindfully eating. I ran (really jog/walk – 12:09 min/mile) a 5K yesterday so today is definitely a down day to recover for the coming week. Beautiful weather here in middle Georgia made it really nice for the 5K.
Home for the next couple of weeks before traveling again.
Be safe & have a great week gentlemen!
-Mike

No movement on scale, but not happy with my eating. Need to be honest, have been eating really poorly lately. Sweets, Salts and just plain CRAP. In my mind I am justifying it as I have not gained any weight but physically feel cruddy b/c of all the crap I have been eating. Well, gotta pull up the boot straps and go back to basics of mindful eating! It starts today, and will take it a day at a time!!
Not all bad as been doing a good job with vitamins and water. Still, water could always be better....
Ok week for exercise, was able to work out 4 out of 7 days. However gotta change it up a little as workout regimen is getting a little boring.
Hope you all have a great week!!

I spent the week sitting in training, but passed on the free donuts and other things that we should not eat. In the end I ended up losing 4.5 pounds, which put me over the 100 pounds lost mark. Snacking and especially chocolate are still my weak points, but I am keeping active and doing well with my liquids and vitamins. I start coaching baseball tomorrow, so I expect those little guys to help me burn off a few pounds this week.
Keep up the good work everyone!
Mike
