John,

I use the Tanita Body Composition scale model BC533 which uses bioimpedence to measure electrical resistance through my body between my feet.  It then uses empirical formulas based on sex, age, and physical activity to calculate %body fat, %water, muscle mass, bone mass, and visceral fat.  The scale is accurate to +/- 3% when calculating %body fat.

HTH, Mike

Your scales, looking at Amazon, made you lose a little weight in the pocket too!

Yeah, the Tanita BC533 is not cheap, but in 2012 when I bought mine they were $40 cheaper.  Tanita does have other models that are as cheap as $35 plus free shipping as well as other manufacturers such as Omron offer body composition scales.
