Sunday Weigh-In
Love these ideas...having only done a 1/2 marathon had not given a lot of thought about all that goes into training/running a full marathon, the ideas about fuel DURING the run are things I am going to do next long run...Same with where I run, outside instead of treadmill...shoes, just bought a new pair and breaking them in...thnx for the advice, I appreciate it
Yours in WLS Journey,
Bill Mac
So where do you PUT all this crap? I have a water bottle "glove" thingy that holds 5 oz that I found and bought at a local running store. I look for water fountains, or just bathrooms along my route that I can use to fill it back up.
The hippie runner belt was my best find so far. Sleeves for the gels OR, I would use the zip tie looking things that hold your race bib, to put the gummy packets in. You can release them to get out the gummy and rezip tight to hold in place.
My iPhone goes in the front, zipped in good, and usually some ID and info on the other side, along with a car key if running somewhere away from home.
All this running talk getting me excited... I am actually speaking tonight to a local bariatric group pre/post surgery folks about running after surgery and encouraging them to sign up for 5k and such.
Just checking in, weight is hovering around 208/210 right now, I def put on some winter weight as I started working 55-60 hours a week during tax season and exercising uh...almost never!??
Finally got out and ran again for the first time in about 5-6 weeks maybe? Did a 5k, and was a pretty neat run because I took my Border Collie with me!! She was a real trooper, but is a "city" dog and prefers to go down the road instead in the nice grass beside it. So I ended up having to run on the busier sections in the grass/ditch with her so we were not causing any traffic jams.
Decided to keep it a bit shorter as I don't want her to hurt her paws, I read several articles to start off your dog carefully since they cannot talk to tell you they are hurting. I did not see any limping or such, but she did nap pretty good afterwards!
As the days get longer, better chances for me to get out there and be active and as always, looking forward to kicking off my new years on April 16th!!!
Sam
@Don, you know what rolls down hill!
@takingcontrolguy, keep up the great work – Mx mode time!
@RNYGuyPA, take it easy with the alcohol. You might try a half glass of wine or half pint of Guinness and drink slowly; like over 30-45 minutes. With RNY the alcohol is almost immediately absorbed into the bloodstream and causes a quick buzz. Afterwards, drink plenty of water to flush.
@Bill Mac, definitely need to fill up on water and fuel for those long runs. Excellent advice from Sam.
@Sam, enjoying exercise is what will make it a lifetime activity. Squeeze in what you can and then “cut loose” on April 16th!

On the road again... it’s beginning to feel like the Willie Nelson song. I made it to the hotel fitness center 4 times last week. The hotel scale shows progress in the right direction. Back home Thursday for a long weekend and then back out next week. I’ve got to stay vigilant in my efforts to get more treadmill time and eat better.
Be safe & have a great week gentlemen!
