What a week! Another one like this past one and I may consider "retiring" from law enforcement and go to work at Wal-Mart. Wait that wouldn't work. See the same faces and NOT have OC spray or a gun. Scratch that. The curse of having two rookie officers in a five man department is that if the Chief is still off recuperating from surgery and the sergeant does not answer his phone at 4:15 AM guess who's phone rings? Couple of times this week. Paying it forward. I woke folks up at that stage too.
Doing better on the WLS front with getting back to normal eating/exercising patterns after being out of kilter while on vacation. Still red lining but closer to going back under and hopefully I will be by next week.
Go work your programs!
Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Pulling out of a bit of a stall, starting to run on the treadmill 3-4x a week doing C25K. I'm hoping for a good week or two in advance of my wife's 50th birthday party on March 8th. Thinking about having a glass of wine during the party but I'm only two months out and I'm not sure it's a good idea. Might a Guinness be an option?
The Numbers:

Slight drop in scale from 197 to 196. Happy w/ numbers, but eating erratic lately. Kind of feast or famine syndrome, ie eating a lot or not at all. Really need to focus on being more consisent. Started using My Fitness Pal on my phone instead of Fitday. Will make best efforts this week.
Still need to get more H20 in, but being diligent w/ Vitamins
In terms of exercise, did pretty well most of week running. Had a tough day today. I was supposed to do an 18 mile run in prep for a Marathon I want to do in May. At mile 15 ran out of gas..could not go another foot. I reflected on it and believe it was due to 3 things: Switching from running on treadmill to outside, Late nite at a Casino, no drinking but out till 2 in morn, and not being into it mentally. Well, lesson learned tomorrow is rest day and Tuesday I will give it another go!!
On a bright note, next week is March so Spring has got to follow soon!!!
Yours in WLS Journey,
Bill Mac
Are you hydrating and FUELING on your runs? Once I got beyond 13.1, I had to start adding fuel to keep me going. (I started carrying water for runs over 10 miles)
You will want to test out various stuff to take with you, depending on what you can handle sugarwise. I really prefer the gummy bear type stuff instead of the gel/pastes. Honey Stinger brand is more 'natural' in their ingredients, etc.
I also tend to carbo load those mornings if I can, with toast + peanut butter + banana "sandwich", especially if I have a couple hours before my run. That and the night before...to fill up my tank with glycogen to burn off.
Part of what you are doing is training your body to burn off that fuel source AND quickly use anything we add in during the run. I know even with my hydrating during the run, I lose 5-8 pounds on a LONG run. Takes a couple days usually for it to come back, with me drinking lots of fluids.
Sounds like you are on track!

When I started carrying food/fuel with me, I started eating them about mile 5 (so 55ish minutes into my run) and then I took them every 2ish miles or so from that point on. I would take a 60 second walk break (or a little longer) to get out my pack of gummy (honey stinger cherry cola was my fav) and I would eat 1 (sometimes 2) of them, really chewing them up good and swallowing before I ran. I did not want to choke on them.
The goal is for them to be in your system before you run out of glycogen in the first place.
If most of your running has been on treadmills, even if they were set to go up/down or always on incline, the real world really will throw you. Treadmill is just so super smooth and I can crank out a MUCH better mile/speed on it that on the open road.
I tend to speed up/slow down a ton and even little stuff like the small steps up and down on/off curbs, changes your stride and uses more energy. Running ANY cross country, grass or dirt pathes is also an energy drain! My times are much slower offroad, ie, 13 minute miles yesterday in a combo of on/off road and futzing around with the dog. Normally I am 12ish minutes or under when all on road, until I get past an hour or more.
FIND hills...don't avoid them now in your training, otherwise you will HATE them on race day... I tended to run around them trying to be as flat as I could. It was one of the factors that slowed me up on my race, it was HILLY!
Glad to see you out there grinding em out! Worn out any shoes yet? I wore through 3 pairs of shoes on the outer corners of my pad (barefoot style running/shoes)
This year, I have turned off my phone telling me my pace/rate and working on just enjoying the run for the run...Sam
