Heating-Air Conditioning systems...
So it's down to the wire concerning buying a new system. I posted questions about 3 years ago on here looking for new systems and got some good feedback. Won't tell you which system it's down to, but have a couple of questions.
How important is it to have a system that can use generic parts? If I have to use OEM (original equipment manufacture) parts will the be a lot higher...And are only the best systems the ones that require OEM parts for repair. Years down the road when I need repairs, will I be over a barrel having to use only 1 dealer's parts. It reminds me of needing parts for a BMW vs a Ford Focus. For the Focus I usually could go to the local auto parts store and buy the part at a reduced price...If they carry it. With the BMW, the auto parts store would be less likely to have the part and I would be stuck at the BMW part department...Crying like a baby. Just an example...Not putting down any car.
The next question do any of you have a copy of the July 2012 Consumer Reports list of H/AC systems? My local library doesn't have it. Also it is the latest on manufacture's rating. I'm cheap...Don't want to pay $ for 2 minutes of reading. I don't go by who is on top, but usually eliminate who is on the bottom...
Any thoughts? Brian
Don't know the answer to your OEM parts question. Generally, I will say that with all of the "new" energy saving technology, more and more parts are unique to each OEM.
I downloaded the May 2012 CR issue on central AC units from GALILEO using my local library account. The July 2012 article is on window AC units.
If you PM me your email, I will forward both articles.
