Sunday Morning Weigh-In, Beat You To It Edition!
@Brian, sharing our WLS story with others can be cathartic for us as well. It reminds us of how far we’ve come and motivates us to do better. Good luck on the colonoscopy. I haven’t had one since post-op but one is my near-term future.
@Bill Mac, awesome run! You’re an inspiration.
@Don, congrats on your 5th surgiversary! You’re the poster child for the ASMBS definition of WLS success (at least 70% of excess weight lost & maintained for 5 years).
My stats this week:
High weight: 392 lbs
Pre-op Weight 4-Aug-09: 377.5 lbs
Last week: 217.4 lbs / 19.3% body fat / 166.8 lbs muscle mass
This week: 218.6 lbs / 19.3% body fat / 167.8 lbs muscle mass
My overall weight this week is up 1.2 lbs with muscle mass up 1 lb. I made it to the gym 5 days this past week for a full 60 minutes of cardio each day and continued to up my intensity burning 1100-1200 kcal during each workout. My muscle mass is still trending upward and is 167.8 lbs today.
Hard to believe that the Weight Tables of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of 1983 indicate that the ideal weight for me should be from 154 to 166 lbs which is for a man that is of medium build (indicated by an elbow breadth of 2 3/4" to 3 1/8"); is 5’11” tall including 1” shoe heel; is between 25 and 59 years of age; and is wearing 5 lbs of clothing. So, I “should” weigh 161 lbs butt naked. Even with zero percent body fat, I would weigh at least 176.4 lbs (167.8 lbs muscle mass + 8.6 lbs bone mass). I have 42.2 lbs of fat (19.3% body fat) with 11 lbs of which is visceral fat (belly fat). I say all of this to highlight the footnote below that is on the weight table which cannot be overlooked by those who are physically active:
“It is important to consider body composition. If you are muscular and athletic, you may weigh more than a sedentary person of the same height and frame size, yet you may be trim, while your sedentary counterpart may be overweight. If your weight comes from muscle, you may fall technically into the overweight category yet not be fat. However, in general, as you approach 20% or more above your desirable weight, your excess weight usually comes from fat. Body fat percentage can be determined by several methods, such as skinfold thickness, underwater weighing, total body water (hydrometry), and whole body potassium.”
Be safe & have a great week gentlemen!
-Mike

355 8/1/11, start of the program; 321 RNY Surgery Day, 200ish since July 2012! [I know the regulars have seen this a bazillion times, this is for the lurkers, YOU CAN DO IT!! IT will change your life forever.]
Ok, so a record setting week for me!! With CFit, I am trying a rotating exercise schedule of 3 days on, 1 day of rest (Friday), and so this weekend I needed to workout but could not make it to the gym.
SO... I haven't run at all since the fall, a little elliptical at the gym and walking but no running other than 1 workout in the last 8 weeks. (4 x 400m = 1 mile or so)
They say all this Cross Fit stuff makes you better at everything right?
Well...I ran 5 DURN miles!!! I finished in 60 minutes exactly and so that avgs out to 12 minute miles and (obviously) 5 mph.
Last fall I was DONE after the 5k (3.2ish miles) and trust me I was DONE yesterday, but honestly, other than my feet (blisters) if really HAD to I could have kept going!!
Then yesterday's at home workout, 21/15/9, Pull ups, Push ups, then a second set of 21/15/9 of Squats and Sit ups! Finished in just under 10 minutes. (Pull ups I have to assist with leg on chair, cannot do on my own...YET)
But am I finished...apparently not. I then go buy and load 20 bales of Straw on my trailer and then un-load them into my "Straw Bale Garden" area, and carry the 50 pound bag of fertilizer around, etc.
Surely that is enough for one day (week.....month.......YEAR) but we go to take the trailer back and my nephew is wanting to play soccer so I end up running around in the yard with him for 30 minutes. (He was diagnosed as Obese at his last check up, 5 years old...I really want to help him get/stay active!)
Add all that up and LIFE sure is amazing!! I cannot believe I ran 5 miles...and then all that other stuff. These new bodies sure are a lot of fun, eh?
