Best compression clothing (specific brands, models please) for exercising/running
Hey Guys --
I had surgery last year, May 1. Was 370 at my heaviest pre-op, now down to 228. Have been hitting the gym religiously in 2013, 5 days a week for an hour (half cardio, half mix of strength training). Having been really heavy since I was a kid, it's been a lifelong dream of mine to be a runner. Something I want to attempt as I lose a bit more weight and get stronger. Definitely foresee an issue with floppy, fatty skin rolls around my middle, saggy man-boobs, upper thighs.
What do you recommend as the best compression clothing?
Thanks in advance,
Tony.
I can't comment for running as I am not a runner but for the BJJ, Wrestling and Mountain Biking I do I really like the compression shorts from Shock Doctor. They fit really well and don't ride up...so to speak. They also have a built in cup pocket which I believe you can get them without that option as well. For shirts I have been using the cheap Starter brand from Walmart for less than $10.00. They are not nearly as nice as others but work well as an under layer....their shorts SUCK so don't waste your money.
Highest Weight 06/2011 = 370
Weight at Surgery 04/11/2012 = 328.8
Goal Weight = 230
Hi Tony-First, congrats on the weight loss that is terrific!
In terms of compression clothing, the best is UnderArmor. But way expensive. I got a knock off brand at Marshalls and works great. Shop around and see what feels best for you.
In terms of running, I started to run after WLS. I recently did a half marathon after never being a runner. LOVIN IT!!
Best of Luck!

Something that I found when I started running in just tshirts is my nips would get VERY chafed!! The compression shirt helps with that, but at the cost of adding "heat" (or trapping it) which during the hottest days last summer was a PITA.
Using bandaids across the nips was an alternate solution so that I could just run in a plain tshirt.
We are pretty close in size of weight before/after (I was 355 and started running at 230ish) and honestly I have not really worried too much about keeping the skin from flopping too much.
With all that said, I just use the cheap walmart compression shirts, I prefer the ones that feel like SILK instead of the rougher feeling "dry-fit" that breathe more.
None of the shorts felt right, maybe it is because I am not used to them and have not given any of them a chance. However Jockey boxer briefs in the "spandex" feeling material are a good substitute for running, they are tight and then just cheap gym shorts over them.
If you have not looked into it yet, Couch to 5k is a great way to get started!
