Last week: 174
This week: 177
Total weight lost: 92
Body Fat 14%
Hi All,
I hope today finds everyone happy and healthy. I had an upswing of a few pounds this week... Diet was so-so but I did alot of hiking, hopefully this is just part of my see-saw that I've been in the last few months. I range between 173 and 177 with 14% body fat. Going to make an effort to get back to just protein and veggies this week and although I have been hiking I need to get back in the gym. Thinking of getting a mountain bike in the Spring too, I did the road bike thing when I was in my 20's and think it would be a good fit... I am not nor have I ever been a runner!
A quick question: How many of us have brothers who are obese? Both my older brothers are carrying around too much excess weight, I try to encourage them to look after their health but it seems to annoy them... is it a guy thing or is it the fact that I am now a shadow of my former self? One made the comment that people must treat me differently now "since I am a skinny dude". I had to acknowledge they do but that I thought it was a sad commentary on human nature...
Hang in there, Spring is coming.
See you all next week!
Brian

Good Day Gents,
The Numbers:
346: All time high 7/1/10 - BMI = 52
326: Tufts Medical Center, Surgery 12/27/10 BMI=49
198: Weigh In 2/10/13
196: This Week 2/24/13 -->Down 2 lb BMI=29
150: Total Weight Loss
Well, got some more movement on the scale! Even a little over 2 years out I still get excited when I see the scale numbers going down!! Overall, been doing the basics: 64 oz water; Mindful Eating and being sure to log food which for me keeps me accountable on a daily basis(Averaging around 1800 calories and 80 g protein daily) and exercising.
Specifically about exercise it has been good. I am into my 9th week training for a race in March. Today I did a long run of 10 miles and felt really great...getting excited about my 1st 1/2 Marathon on 3/17/13. Simply amazing considering at one time I would have felt like I was dying if I ran for 10 minutes let alone 10 miles!!!!
Thanks for all the great posts, I love reading them and sharing this journey with a great bunch of guys!
Have a great week all!!!
Yours in WLS Journey,
Bill Mac

It is what it is.
Due to some traveling and work issues, it was a short week (3-days) but it was a ***** of a week, had not been on the treadmill in over a week till yesterday. Notice too I'm having some "large" pouch days lately.
To be PC an improvised victim of the unbalanced social economic scale that self medicates with a concoction known as methamphetamine decided he wanted to extend his stay at the local incarceration center by increasing the ventilation of my patrol car by kicking out one of my back door windows. Mighty nice of him. I did not care for that window anyway!
Know what you mean about older brothers. I have one and whatever I've lost I think he has picked up. Takes 8-9 meds for BP, diabetes etc and I'd like to ***** slap him for not getting WLS seeing what good it has done for me. Kicker is he is afraid of anesthesia fearing he won't wake up plus he saw the "dark side" experience I had. I've said my piece to him and don't say nothing more about it to him. Even appealed to him via his hobby telling him it would be easier to work on his classic VW's and drive them with less weight but he ain't budging.
Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!
Today, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of a co-worker who decided to end his life this past week. Such senseless loss leaves one feeling so insignificant. My hope is that whomever I interact with on a daily basis would find me approachable enough to seek me out for help versus taking such action that is so final and beyond understanding.
Gents, I make this commitment to you – if you need my help, counsel, or just a friendly ear, please do not hesitate to contact me. I may not have the answer or maybe you’re not seeking an answer, but I will do what I can.
My stats this week:
High weight: 392 lbs
Pre-op Weight 4 Aug 09: 377.5 lbs
Last week: 213.8 lbs / 20.7% body fat / 161.0 lbs muscle mass
This week: 217.4 lbs / 20.0% body fat / 165.4 lbs muscle mass
I’m up 3.6 lbs this week but 4.4 lbs increase in muscle mass. I made it to the gym 4 days this week. I ran a 5K yesterday in the rain, 46°F and posted my best time to date - 36:07. Post race I feel a little sore but pretty good considering my age and the 30+ years my knees carried 160 lbs excess weight.
Beautiful day today in Middle Georgia – sunny and 67°F – is a nice departure from all the recent rain which starts again tomorrow. We are slated to have an all time record February for rain.
Be safe & have a great week gentlemen!
-Mike

202 This morning...
The scale had slowly been creeping up on me, so I decided to get busy on my exercise plan again! I think I mentioned in my post last week as well.
Started CrossFit 1 week ago, thought I was gonna pass out at points. Head pounding, barely could stand afterwards in the shower, etc.
Day 2 (Tuesday) went much better, felt pretty decent, still came in last of 4 in the total time (and youngest of the bunch at 42 vs 50-60s)
Skipped Wed / rest day - just ramping up
Day 3 (Thursday) - Kicked BUTT in the workout and actually came in FIRST (of 3) beating two of the regulars. Granted, we are all having to substitute or have help (large bands for pullups to assist) but still was nice to come out first.
Friday - ice/sleet so the gym canceled the morning classes
Saturday - Nothing really except work
Sunday - went out for a walk with the wife and our dog at the local park. Not too long, maybe 20 minutes but at least "active" (Then a 20 minute ride on the Harley, yeah!)
This morning, 530am back to CFit and came in last (of 3) but it was close, and the workout was new to me. 21/15/9
(Calories on the rowing machine, then pull-ups then Clean & Press 45 pounds in my case) So you do this 21 times, each of those, then 15 times each, then 9 times each! I finished in 15:25, maybe 30 seconds behind 2nd place.
Scale went back down the couple extra pounds, watching the diet a bit more though the durn cookie tin still haunts me.
As for brothers, my younger brother is probably 450 pounds and stubborn as the day is long... we keep hoping some day he will decide he is going to lose weight / he has the kind of personality he could do it.
Thing is, he was the skinny brother, he was 135 pounds in ninth grade, ran track, etc. Then by senior year probably 150+ and freshman year of college he discovered computers / sitting all day and it really started stacking on. 200 or more I would guess pretty quick.
He literally does not care... no girlfriend to motivate him and thinks if girls would not want him "big" he would not want that girl anyway. So...we hope and pray.
Sam
