Fell off the wagon...
Guys,
I had VSG on Sept. 10, 2012 and had lost 50lbs when I went to all inclusive resort in Mexico, where I fell off the diet wagon.
I'm having a hard time getting back to the success I was having before leaving for my trip because I'm eating too many carbs.
Anyone else out there fall off the wagon?
Please offer any advice.
Thanks,
Utahrob
So, you're 2 months out from surgery and down 50 lbs? That's over 6 pounds per week, which is pretty damn good. At that pace you're bound to start slowing down at some point, even stalling. As for the carb wagon, don't look at this journey as a diet, or a sprint. Think of it as a life-long, lifestyle change. The surgery will fix your body, but it is ultimately up to you to fix your mind and your relationship with food, including food choices. Don't beat yourself up if you made poor choices on a vacation. If you were tossed off the "carb wagon", get up, brush yourself off and start thinking about the good choices you will make today, tomorrow, and the rest of your life.
That being said, as difficult as it is, (especially if you have kids) try and keep the kind of carbs you find yourself gravitating towards out of the house. I keep a box of Kaschi cereal for my carb cravings and have a half cup or so dry in a cup for a snack. I have ordered every breakfast, lunch and dinner out for the last year and a half without the toast- without the sandwich bread- and without the pasta or rice. Don't get me wrong, I still eat that stuff on occasion, but it is never the main dish. When I eat the protein first, I usually don't have room for much else. I find myself compulsively picking at my meal if all that stuff happens to be mixed into it, and I'm picking out the protein and separating them from the carbs. It's automatic now, and the more you do it, the easier it is to do. Good luck, and keep us posted. Hope this helped.

Good stuff Tim, it can now be found in the Men's forum FAQ!
Rob, When I've been bad I revert to the way I gained significant weight loss before my surgery: Count everything that goes in your mouth. Put some real effort into getting your exercise (ie: don't just go through the motions and half-ass it). Reread the diet plan you were given by your surgeon and follow it. Look in the mirror and re-examine why you got the surgery in the first place... do you want to be back where you were a year ago today?
At 2 months you are still healing, follow your doctor's outline! Like Tim said... the surgery is a tool to get you a jump start into what is a wholesale change in the way you live... without that change you can fail your surgery!
Hug your kids every day, let them know they are loved, keep them safe the best you can.
