Hey Paul, so I have officially decided to do my first 5k. It's a casual one that is rooted in fun as much as fitness but for me that is a great way to get into it. You've probably heard of the foam fest? It's coming to my town in May. Looks like a blast and I'm very excited.

Totally Awesome!

Your first of anything should be for fun and the experience.  Good luck and keep us posted!

I've read that a simple method to determine if you have a small or large frame is to wrap your thumb and pointing finger around your wrist.

If  don't touch then you have a large frame. If they just touch, you have a medium frame. If they overlap you have a small frame.

doesn't help when you got an inch of fat around your wrist.

Before my WLS surgery I couldn't think of wearing a normal size watch after surgery my Dad's watch fits and he weighed 150.

Hey Man,

Long Time no see.

Anyway - consider body composition analysis like a bod pod.  What you want to aim for is a healthy body fat percentage.  Forget the scales, they are never accurate for a variety of reasons, go to a facility that either does BIA via a human or an immersion test.  Someone your age should be between 8% and 19% body fat.

There is a clinic at baptist that will do a body fat analysis via immersion for $50.  VArious gyms around sometimes also have traveling bod pod trucks that do the same.
